MR Insider: July 1, 2015

I have several years of model railroad magazine in binders. My question for Chuck, is there some where a index of all the articles, I have read some great ideas and when I want to add one of them on my layout I have a hard time remembering which issue the article was in?

RMR: I just tore down my railroad for a move and want to get the new one going. Any chance of “Build My Railroad”?

Is it possible to post when and what time the MR attendees will be at the MR booth at Portland?

Well done, oh faithful servant.

I’m just getting back into the hobby, I was in before back in the 80’s. This is for Chuck or anyone else. How often do motorized switches fail? What is their average life span on a busy layout? Because i’m thinking of using manual throws. Thanks.

For Michael Vest: Model Railroader Magazine stopped providing print version multi-page article indexes several years ago. To reference an article go to the Trains.com magazine index. Under the resources pull down go to the Model Railroader archives to find the article you are looking for. Another way to access past articles is to get an All Access Pass from Kalmbach Publishing. This allows you 24-7 access to articles

For Michael Hauri: The original Chicago and Northwestern lines between Milwaukee, and Madison, WI, and also between Madison and Dodgeville, WI were dark divisions(i.e. no signals). It is possible in the future that I will add signals to the main classification yard at Butler, the passenger stations at Milwaukee, Madison, and Waukesha where there is an interchange. All of those locations were signaled in the prototype.

For Melissa Kroll: The one thing I would do “differently” would be to hire David Popp and Cody Grivno as full time consultants, with benefits, to assist in the construction. That is, if I had a lot of money.
