MR Insider Weekly: April 1, 2015
Congrats on the 2 year anniversary. I always look forward to new MR Video Plus episodes. Can’t wait to see 2015 Kalmbach staff home layout tours.
This was a very good insider video. Cody I really like the old episodes you guys made of Cody’s Office. This is going to be a great year. Keep up the good work.
MR video vault looks very interesting…I have all of those very first Allen Keller/Kalmbach videos in my library. Those videos gave me a great jump start into the hobby of model railroading! Talk about classics!
Glad to hear that you still have those old Allen Keller/Kalmbach videos. When do you think they will be released on DVD? And speaking of Allen Keller, what happened to his Great Model Railroad Video web site? Does any one know?
Congratulations to the whole MRVP crew on your second anniversary. You’ve done a great job in the first two years; I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us in the next two!
Well MRV crew it has been a super year’s worth of model railroading and I have to admit, it’s one of the the best online purchases I’ve ever made. Best wishes for the coming year and looks like it will be good one, thanks.
“Turns out that …” - I’m very surprised that David didn’t know about the Keller/Kalmbach videos. They were great. The great layouts SV, V&O, OS, Cat Mountain, Midland Road, etc and the great video on scenery and weathering. They were really great in their day. Unfortunately, I only ever got a couple transferred to dvd before I moved from one city to another and tapes got lost, damaged. Will be terrific to see them again. The SV was my favourite - built a version in N in late 70s early 80s and it influenced my HO layout in the 90s. Now my influences are the Beer Line, your other projects and shelf layouts - getting too old for large layout, plus challenge on new. I enjoy viewing and building layouts and then operating them with minimal scenery - usually get it all sussed and start afresh - lol !!
Can’t wait for the video vault series. I have an old copy on beta of layout video tour #2 and of course I have no way to watch it anymore. I sure hope you show all of the layout tour series on the vault.
Well done on this your 2nd Birthday/Anniversary!!!
Really excited to see what’s ahead this year! I love MRVP and have been a subscriber from the beginning.
Loving it all and looking forward to lots more! MR magazine and MR Video Plus…a winning combination and worth every penny of the subscription ! Keep up the great work !
Yes, I can’t wait to see the Cat Mountain and The Argentine Division in their heyday once again, in more than 240 lines, I hope. I keep my VCR hitched up for only a couple of tapes, and the Allen Keller layout tours are one reason.
Must be about time to pay my renewal. MRVideoPlus has been some of the best hobby dollars that I have spent - well worth every penny. Thanks for all the good programming.
I go back a long way. Can’t wait for the old ones. Armstrong. King. Allen and of course Gordie.
Happy 2nd birthday MRVP. Best wishes to you all.
What ever happended to Allen Keller

Congratulations on your Terrible Two! Yes, model railroading has come along way since I started “officially” in 1960. Ya’ll have brought an amazing excitement to our hobby with MRPV. I, like many others, probably can’t wait for Tuesdays with your next instalment. Last week, I landed several boxes of old MR Magazines (and others) from the old Southern Pacific baggage room at the depot (Salinas, CA) next to my “club’s” REA building that houses our HO layout. I have spent countless hours going through the issues I had missed over the years. I was able to make up several complete years for many of the years when buying the magazine was just not in the family budget. Ah, the memories! And what do you know, DCC came along back then! I’m ashamed of all that I missed. All those old articles are now helping to make my 90 degree learning curve a little less steep. I’m still facing a stiff grade. So, keep the videos coming. They’re my helper engines! Onward!
Can’t wait to see the old Allen Keller / Model Railroader videos again. If I remember correctly, those videos also aired on PBS under the title “Model Railroading Today” There were some great layout visits captured in those episodes. Onward, Yes we need a update on Jim’s current Ohio Southern.
Hi,
Exciting times and things coming. One question though. Is the MR Video Vault going to be included in our subscription with MR Video Plus or will it be an additional subscription to be added onto our current subscription?
