Anyone using MR “Modelling Logging Railroads” vol.2 by kalmbach? how do you rate it? my preview seemed to be quite good, any comments on the contents?
If you like logging rrs and want details on just about anything, then the best book you will ever get.
If that’s the one by Matt Coleman, I have it and it is quite good.
I’ve read it and still use it as a reference. Excellent book if you are interested in logging railroads.

The book gives you a comprehensive view on logging practices - not only on logging railroads. If you want to model a logging line, it is a must to have.
Is this the item you are referring to - http://www.kalmbachstore.com/12423.html? It’s not labelled as volume 2, and the title is slightly different from what you gave. Also, some accurate reviews are right on the web page. It’s a great primer on logging. However, those already knowledgeable about logging may find it a little light. And there are some errors in the text and photo captions.
my thoughts, your choices

Walthers has or had a lumber book, also by Matt Coleman, that was excellent. And the NMRA has a reprint of a book on lumber

The book I sent for is MODELLING LOGGING RAILROADS VOL.2 it has a coloured photo of a logging layout with a loco comining out a small tunnel. I believe it is a new publication, and the reviews were very positive.
Keep in mind that if you want to view a video of logging layouts, Amazon Video on Demand has a logging layout video that can be rented for instant viewing for 2 or 3 dollars (can’t remember which) it’s an hour long video produced by greeen frog of 3 or 4 outstanding logging railroads. I sure hope more model railroading and prototype railroads become available on line. tired of paying $39.95 for videos! However I don’t mind paying the price for Allen Keller videos. But now I hear Allen’s quit producing new videos!
