MR magazine bonus booklet

Went to the LHS today and noticed that the Jan issue came with a bonus booklet I didn’t get one with my mailed issue, did this happen to anyone else?, and is there a way for me to get the bonus booklet?

I just got my issue… and there wasn’t any bonus issue inside of it.

Never heard of any such animal, [:)] and I did not get one with my Jan issue either. [:'(]

Did you get to sneak a peak of the contents??

It was a booklet for small layouts it was sealed in plastic with the magazine so I couldn’t peek through it.

my experience as a subscriber is that any special books offered with the issue in the hobby store DOES NOT come to the home-subscriber.

Which I used to think was unfair.

I bought a duplicate copy with the special book at the hobby store once to see what was the big deal.

However,it seems if you regularly subscribe, you will most likely have had the info that is in the books as they seem formulated from past issues of MR.

Correct, you only get these if you buy the magazine retail. However, some small booklets like that are available at their website–for a price. Yes, it seems kind of strange.

Generally the small booklets that are in the newstand copies of the magazine are NOT new material - it’s a rehash of old articles. Often those same old articles appear under the subscriber extras for the issue in question. Remember as a subscriber you are getting things the newstand buyers don’t - for a far lower price. What it up to now, $6.95? I know I didn’t pay over $80 for my subscription.

Thanks for all the quick replys and info.

Sometime in mid November, before the Jan MR issue arrived (I’m a subscriber), an envelope from Kalmbach arrived in the mail. I thought maybe I had won a Kalmbach door prize at Trainfest in Milw a week or so earlier. No…it was just a 5 or 6 page “booklet” of small layout plans…something I had received from Kalmbach a few years ago. There was nothing explaining why it was sent. It went into recycling immediately.

Maybe this is what was included with the newstand copies? If so, you haven’t missed anything.

I always buy my MR at my LHS. Usually twice a year they have one of these “special” booklets. They really aren’t that special and you subscribers aren’t missing anything.
