MR´s Project Layout LA & SL

Has anyone tried to recreate the current MR project layout, using Kato Unitrack?

I used the plan from the track plan database, showing the individual track #´s and re-created the plan with WinRail, but it just does not work out.

What am I doing wrong?

Mmm - I have no idea what sizes Kato N scale unitrack come in, and in particular I have no idea about curve radius on their superelevated curves or whether those are in your drawing program, but it seems like your straights by the bridge over the wash might be too long, and that you might need a longer straight going downwards on the lower right ?

In the track plan database the curve at bottom right comes almost all the way out to the bottom edge, and no so far to the right.

Stein,

I used exactly the individual pieces of track as stated in MR´s plan, checked all the lenghts and radii vs. Kato´s home page.

I guess we have to leave up to MR´s staff to comment on how they “squeezed” the plan.

Sounds like the March issue may do that as there is an article on using N-scale snap together track.

Doc,

if you check the MR track plan database, they already show the track plan, using the Kato Unitrack, together with a parts list. I used the detailed track plan and it still does not fit at all!

Kato will be releasing a track set for this layout.

Could be a misprint.

[edit: Stein already pointed the lower-right curve positioning out]

The problem seems to be the use of the 160 curve segment in the upper left (at the turnout location). The radius is too sharp at 19in. A 40-150 (28R) segment would be better, but is too long for the space.

If I don’t put in the 160 I end up with a lower section that seems to match the MR illustration fairly well.

I also wonder if the super-elevated curves are slightly different than the non-elevated equivalents.

I’m not familiar with the plan or project layout, but at a quick glance, it appears that there is one too many straight sections where what I’m guessing to be the re-railer is located. I traced part of the image on my monitor onto a piece of paper, then slid it to eliminate one straight section, and the misaligned tracks seem to line up perfectly.

Seems as if I have figured it out now. There are some errors in the MR drawing - the red arrows point to the places, where I needed to make adjustments to the original version “to make ends meet”.

What did you use for the section at the upper left?
Alan

Alan,

when looking from the upper left turnout to the left, it is part # 121 and 160 for the upper track, and part # 111 + 101 for the lower track.

Seems to work out with my CAD system.
