MR Video Plus Pricing Announced

I got an email today with a link to another ‘preview’ video. Also in the email was a special ‘Charter Member’ subscription rate for MR Video Plus. If you already have an MR subscription, the special rate is $25 for the year. They had other monthly rates and non-subscriber rates, which I am sure will be posted soon. Since I already have a subscription, I signed up for the year. I figure I can give it a shot for a year and re-new if I feel it is worth it. The MR Video Plus start up is about a month away…

Jim

Saw the ad Jim and subscribed. Seemed like a reasonable deal to me.

Joe

It is not clear to me what you are talking about.

What is it that you get for your $25?

Rich

Rich:

Go to this site: http://mrr.trains.com/mrvoffer . It gives the details.

Joe

I signed up too, worth giving it a shot.

Joe, thanks for the link. I have to study that a little to see what all you get. Sounds like guys think that it is worth it.

Rich

Check out the Model Railroader Video Plus Website for accurate information.

Okay, went there. All I get when the videos start is an exclamation (!) point in a circle, even the free videos. What gives with that?

Count me in. I think the intro price of $25/yr. is very fair. In a new venture like this, the first few months are often a learning experience for everyone involved. A year should give everybody time to “settle in”. I’m looking forward to it…

Mike

Maxman,

It sounds like you may have the same issue I have. I don’t have Flash installed, and never will. I don’t have Java installed, either; so good-bye JMRI. I wrote to MR and asked why they are using Flash and was told it is because of the company that produces the video. I was also told that sometime down the road the video may not be produced using Flash. Until then Video Plus is not an option for me and because of Java JMRI isn’t, as well.

Glenn

I know I have JAVA because I can run JMRI.

What is “Flash”? I can see the videos on this website. Is the new website different?

EDIT: Went back and tried again. Now seems to work OK. They must have returned control of my computer from the Outer Limits.

It looks like a great deal to me - I’m in! If I could, I’d sign up for multiple years (at the charter rate!). Hopefully they’ll link it to MR subscriptions so that they both expire at the same time. One renewal for all.

How very strange. They work fine for me and I’m using an old 32 bit system.

I joined too!!! [:)]

Sound like a good deal to me too. I’m still at the stage of soaking up as much info as I can so I’m looking forward to it. I just hope that they keep new content coming in a timely fashion. And that it’s not loaded up with the same how-to videos that they now have for free under the Expert Tips.

What a difference! The first thread on this topic was posted yesterday and is on page 2 of this forum, already, this morning. Someone started by mentioning that the prices had been posted, just after I had viewed the last promo and signed-up. Only two more posts were posted, both negative! Seems like a little more positive outlook being portrayed here.

Well, I do think they presented the free samples in ever increasing order of quality. I guess I don’t get that excited about railfanning. A DD40 is not a loco that interests me, although it was nice to see a complete teardown - and I can only hope Dana gets more comfortable in front of the camera the more of these he does. Poor guy seems lost in front of the camera, about how I’d be trying to do something like that. The Roundhouse segment was good, but the short time allocated for each topic result in almost no depth. Dana was much more natural in this format, too. And Cody - well, Cody is just a natural in front fo the camera. I guess that’s why everyone loves Cody’s Office segments, too. I will say though that all the steps involved there show exactly why I paint my wheels with a brush instead of spraying them!

Overall there should be plenty of good stuff coming, and like anything else, it will get better as the people get more comfortable in their presentations.

I think it’s definitely worth a $2.00 a month gamble. Everything they have previewed looks good. Sure there are a few features that may not interest me, but I look forward to the April 1st launch. Wait a minute, Starting on April Fools Day! Hummm?

[:-^]

Yup, count me in.

I too hope the expiry date gets hooked to you subscription renewal for Charter members.

Johnboy out…

I’ll definitely be signing on. For twenty-five bucks it’s not that much of a gamble. I spend more than that in a week on Big Macs… (and yes I DO realize that MR Video Plus will be better for my health)
