i read that the module instantly reverses polarity when a loco crosses a gap from main line to reverse loop.
mine does not. the loco comes to a halt when front wheels cross the gap, and my dcc beeps to indicate a short circuit.
any suggestions?

I use the MRC reversers and they work fine for me. A couple of things to check if you are getting short indications. Make sure that you have the track gapped on both rails and that there is a gap sufficient to prevent power arcing across it. Double check the wiring diagram for the reverser. Perhaps its wired incorrectly. Mine are wired in on the feeder wires between the bus and the track. If you are gapped very close to a turnout, maybe move the gap further out in case the short is caused by the turnout frog.
Lastly, if this a loop as I am understanding it you need to have the track gapped on both ends of the loop. As the train enters the loop it should cross a gap, as it goes around and returns to the mainline, it should cross a second gap in the rails. In essence the loop is totally isolated from the mainline power by the two gaps. As a guess, it sounds like you do not have the second gap in place. Good luck

i figured the problem had to be simple, although not obvious to me, unless the module was defective.
nobody told me not to wire the reverse loop. it didn’t occur to me that the module both detected the polarity AND provided the current. duh.
works fine now
