MRC DCC and Sound

I’m thinking of buying a Bachmann Russian decapod with DCC and sound already installed. I have the MRC DCC system, and MRC says it will work with sound, but I’m a little leery of their claims. Anyone use MRC and sound? Does anyone know if the Russian will work with MRC, or do I need to step up to a better system if I want sound?

Gary

Hi Gary;

The limited run Spectrum HO steam locomotives with sound come with Soundtraxx decoders. The MRC DCC systems cannot address all of the features of the decoder. You can run it fine, but you may have to take it to someone with a better system to change some of the options.

MRC now offers sound decoders, they have only one steam and one diesel…generic, not matching anything in particular.

To the best my knowledge, there are two “Russian” Decopods still under steam, one near St Louis, and one at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union.

Thanks Nigel.

I was looking at the Bachmann Decapods that Trainworld has on sale w/DCC and Sound, which I assume are the limited edition models you reference. I looked at the Frisco model, even has the tender doghouse! Just waiting for my tax return…

How’s the layout room coming along? And the trackplan?

Gary

Hi Gary;

The subfloor is almost completely down, I am a couple of weeks behind due to having to go out of town a couple of weekends ago, and some other issues…

It looks like the space is a bit more than I originally thought, on the order of 14 ft by 33 ft, with the space to go to 18 ft on one end. My present plan is a four fingered “E” with the backbone along the east wall, the 18ft finger on the north wall, then three 14 ft fingers extending west from the backbone.
