MRC prodigy express

As a basic system i would like to get peoples opinions.Micro mark has it for a very good price at the moment

I also have the Prodigy Express,it works great for my layout(12’x8’ HO)I think it has some limitations if you have a large layout or more than 9999s locos.I like and would recommend it,and the price is right.

I love my PE. I would, however, highly suggest that before purchasing one spend some time and read the numerous threads on here, both PE/PA specific and starter DCC systems in general. There’s some good info on these forums. Make a list of what is important to you and how each system does and doesn not meet your needs and wants. Ask questions. It is my firm belief nearly all the systems out there are “good ones.” The key is fineding the one that is good for you.

I currently run a Prodigy Advance System and I am very pleased with it. I plan to add a panel and at least one PE or PA throttle on the far side of my next layout. I like the expandability and the ease of use of this system. For the foreseable future I plan on sticking with this system.

I too have the prodigy express system, as a starter system it is good in my opinion. Had some programming issues when first setup, but i sent an e-mail to mrc and they responded with an e-mail that contained way more info than the instruction manual that came with it. I would however recommend that you stay away from their (mrc) decoders. I have a couple of the Bachmann DCC on board locos and have been able to program them and change speed steps with the prodigy system without problem. Hope this helps.

Trainworld/Trainland has it for $109.99

And then you can get a loco to go with it [:)]

I just happened to be checking up on the wireless version of PA…

Found a site www.wholesaletrains.com and they have for it $94.99.Very good price, lowest i have found.Only thing wrong is that i live in australia and i have to get a separate power supply

Hi all,

For those that use the PE, I have a couple of questions.

  1. Can you unplug the throttle and move to a new location while the train is still running? I’ve read the PA can do this.

  2. If you have both PA and PE throttles, does it get confusing, given that they are different?

  3. Does the PE have the yard and route features?

  4. Does anyone know anything about the computer interface indicated by the recent MRR ad?

Thanks,

Tim in MN

I have the PA and really like it. You can read the Express manual here:

It should answer some of your questions.

I don’t think anyone knows about the yet-to-be-released computer interface yet; I sure am interested.

The Express does not have the yard feature, and I believe you can unplug the throttle and your train will maintain current speed,I will have to try it.
