I recently purchased a MRC Sound Power and Light 9000 (colored black) off of ebay about two months ago. It worked great, until now it seems that it seems to permanantly have momentum. The momentum switch is off, and so is the light, but it gives it momentum no matter what. I have tried wiggling all the switches to see if that helps, but no luck. The brake switch still works as if it had momentum, and there are no problems elsewhere, (sound, lights, AC, ect.) I am not that technical of a guy, but then again don’t want to spend another $120 on a new controller. I don’t feel like switching to dcc either. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it, or is there another more modern controller that could take its place? Thanks!
I have a 7000 and it looks easy to remove the top, I would try to carefully remove the top and see if the Momentum switch is double thow. If it does have two sections, one for the light and one for the action, the action contacts may be defective. With the power off check the Momentum switch for proper on-off operation.
I can’t remember when I bought my 7000 but it was well over 20 years ago and has preformed very good for powering my locomotives. I bought it for it’s sound and for it’s time period it wasn’t too bad.
I still use it when I run in DC mode, the 3.5 amps is plenty of power for HO.
