Im thinking of adding the MRC SOUND STATION CITY & COUNTRY to the layout to add further sound ( i already have the railroad sound unit). Does anyone have any expereince with this particular unit? what do the constant sounds sound like? is it too generic? too gimmicky? any help would be appreciated

Hi Ranchero,
I bought one a couple of years ago, tried it for about a week and took it back for a refund.
I can’t say that the sounds were poor, but when I’m down in the train room I am there to relax and I like the quietness other than the sounds of the trains running. I found that it didn’t help me to relax and after awhile it became annoying. So back it went.[{(-_-)}]
Johnboy out…
Most of the sound samples are low quality, short, repetitive, and annoying. I like the church bell, the dog, the rooster, and the cricket, the rain and wind are downright hokey.
For long running background sounds, the CD player on an old PC is a good bet. You can mix your own background, set it to loop and forget about it.
With that same PC, you can use a key mapping program to trigger 16 bit CD quality samples through the sound card, train samples, animals, industry, birds, whatever you want.
I have one on my layout (just for the sound of the running water along a very prominent creek). I bought it on eBay for $20 and am still not sure it was a good investment. Two speakers but you can’t assign two different sounds to the speakers (just turn one or the other off). Most of the other sounds are pretty poor and far too repetitive. For the same price, there are several manufacturers of sound modules that do a much better job.
I have one simply as a gimmick to entertain kids that visit the layout. It is not worth much more than that.
http://ittproducts.com/ sells many different sounds for about $30 each - you can sample the sounds on their website.[8D]
I have an opinion.
Don’t. It’s a waste of money, as you’ll get tired of the sounds before long and keep 'em off.
No offence, by the way, just my opinion.
