Hi! I recently install a “synchro sound box” for diesel loco, from MRC, on my layout. I used the DC mode,i’m not equipped for DCC opération,my problem is i cant synchronized the diesel rumble. If some of you encounter the same problem and fix it please tell me how.
Note: All other feature perform very well.
Many thanks for you’re help!
The MRC diesel unit does not allow you to program the top speed/power pack setting like the MRC synchro steam unit does. There are 8 notches in the diesle throttle, a different sound sample for each, and a ninth sample for while the diesel is accelerating or decellerating. If you only hear the “idle” sample, then flip the direction switch on your power pack, or else reverse the leads from the synchro unit to the power pack throttle terminals. The MRC unit doesn’t like polarity reversals, and deals with them by not changing the sound sample used, no matter how you set the throttle.
I’m running DC, with block circuits for powering the track, and use those to change loco direction, using the switch on the power pack only for quick and dirty no-sound maneuvering. This way the synchro unit gets what it wants, and i get what I want, everyone’s happy, but, if the sound is on and I reverser the polarity of the track voltage, the sound of the diesel always drops to idle and stays there until I set the direction switch back the other way.
Thank Jeffers to taking the time to answer me about this device. Its good to see i’m not the only to use this sound device. You’re experience help me to understand the problem i have… I admit , i’m little disappoint . I imagine the sound more like a engine equipped with DCC sound decoder.
Thanks again Jeffers and i apologize for my bad english cause english is not my first languages. Merci et au revoir!
