I need some feedback. I’ve got a small layout, 8 locos, running straight DC from 2 CMI hoggers. I have no plans to switch to DCC, but all this recent talk of the appeal of sound has got me thinking. Is this system any good? worth the price? Would it be good for my application or is there a better alternative? THanks, Andy
As long as you don’t mind the sound coming from only one location and not following your trains around your layout, the Synchro Sound may satisfy you.
Synchro sound? Isnt that the sound decoder? So far as I know they are only compatible with DCC. If you are talking about the Sound Station (or whatever it is) With the 2 speakers and the big remote with all the sound buttons. That is OK. You might eventually want something better. But, if you really want sound then go for it.
Is this avaiable yet? I havent seen it ( except on the back cover of MR )
Saw the back cover of MR today. Silly me.

I’m DC and have a stand alone diesel/steam MRC Sound/Power Pack and three small speakers. Worked well for me & still does.
Then last fall there were a couple of fire sales, Athearn Challenger & BLI. I bot the discount
and ended up with two good performers, the Athearn & GG1. The Athearn has a remote control
that handles sound on DC and the BLI has a optional Sidekicker or Quantum Engineer for easy
DC push-button sound operation.
In both cases, I got lucky. Good prices & good performance but there are complaints out there
about the sound authenticity of both manufacturers.
In addition there’s a few BLI complaints out there concerning operating performance/ de-railments.
