The club I belong to has been given a bunch of HO stuff, including a MRC Tech II Railpower 1440 powerpack with “Tru-Sound”. Very nice steam whistle and diesel horn buttons on the front and 2 screws to hook up speakers on the back.
The big question is – WHAT speakers work with this? I read about 6V DC on the speaker terminals.
Hopefully some one out there has one of these or the instructions. MRC just has their current stuff on the web site, and HO Seeker is just rolling stock.
Of course, right after I post this I find the MRC instructions on line, but they still do not have a speaker rating. It came with the speaker, and that I do not have. So any hel;p on size or rating would be appreciated.
Any 8 Ohm speaker should be okay with it – we have one of those that was given to our club several years ago along with a rather large speaker from an old stereo set.
I’m not so sure about your voltage measurement, though. You should not be getting a DC reading. Speaker output should be AC, with the frequency varying according to the sound being produced.
If your DC voltage measurement is continuous, even if the system is not producing sound, it may be defective. If it were mine, I’d try a small 8 Ohm speaker first to see what happens before connecting it to a larger, more expensive speaker.
