Has anyone received the new Model Railroad Planning 2008 yet? I read on another forum that someone had already received their copy.
No, I haven’t yet either.
Got mine yesterday. - Nevin
Nevin,
What is your impression? I always find a lot of information and inspiration in MRP. I hope this year is no exception! I’d be interested in your thoughts.
BTW, I’m jealous! [:P]
I got mine last Thursday. It was alright, but then I already have my layout plan developed based on prototype track arrangements.
I got mine last Saturday. My opinion…it’s OK for $6.95. Some neat stuff, but not hughly spectacular. TOO MUCH ADVERTISING…IMHO…for a special issue. I understand business, but I don’t like it.
Wow… is it out earlier this year than in the past? IIRC it didn’t usually ship until late February in the past, at least when I used to pre-order it.
Anyone know when it is scheduled to hit the newstands? I have every issue since '95 so I’ll need to pick up a copy for the RR library. Usually at least a couple of good articles in each issue.
Got mine last week and read it voraciously over the weekend. There is a supplement pamphlet with some good articles by the MR staff – not exactly sure why they are separate and not in MRP itself. I always enjoy MRP even though my layout plan per se is essentially complete. There are always things to learn and do over better the next time. Nothing by Iain Rice in this issue by the way, alas.
Oddly enough one page is half magenta in color due either to a printer error or TK was feeling giddy one day …

Yes, last Friday!
Which isn’t bad for being in the UK!!
Haven’t had much chance to read it yet though, so can’t comment.

You weren’t around in the 50’s were you? Back then, I read MR as much for the ads as for the content. You never knew when someone would come out with something new. I still read MR for the ads, as well as their annuals.
I like the ads.

[:D] Nope, I’m a youngin…[:D]
I do remember Penn Central freights running the 4 track Pennsy main between Philly and Lancaster (70+ trains a day), past my Aunt’s back yard. Now, you’d be lucky to see ONE Norfolk Southern “peddler” run from Lancaster to Coatesville per week.
Yep, it arrived on Monday here in Wake Forest, NC!
I’ve been reading the workshop tips supplement that comes along with it, getting to the MRP 2008 soon!
I recieved mine yesterday and I too like to read the advertisements to see if anything in new.
Have to say that this one went on the mag pile fairly quickly. Really found little of interest or relevance to me. But that may be that my layout is pretty much finished and has been for a few years.
Bob
Still waiting for mine, but I DO live out in the sticks!
