When I went home for lunch I cound my advance copy of Model Railroad Planning in the mail. Cool!!! [:D] I didn’t have time to do any more than brouse the table of contents, but I did notice they included a free booklet on drawing accurate track plans. I can’t wait to dig into it tonight, but I thought I would go ahead an open up the inevitible discussion. Have you gotten yours yet, and what did you think?
I got mine yesterday. Looks good so far. Glad to see a couple of pictures of Jim Butler’s N&W layout. Dave Barrows is back to more conventional modeling. The photos of the O scale PRR layout are stunning. - Nevin
Picked mine up at the LHS today, torn into it right away, umm. Soso 5 on the scale of 1 to 10. I’ll have to go into it alittle more maybe i’ll fine more to it that i like.
I got somthing yesterday that showed 4 or 5, 4x8 track plans and parts lists. I saved it in case I run into a newbie that could use it. (I thank MR for the effort, but I’m far beyond that magazine)
I had only a few minutes to flip through it last night, and I saw only 1 or 2 4x8 plans, several small bedroom plans, and several large plans. Besides, I often find that reading about the planning of even a small layout I pick up a trick or am reminded of a technique that will help me. My layout is beyond that too, but that doesn’t mean I have nothing to learn from them.
I’ve only had time to read the first article–a Bernie Kempenski article on his new layout. Being an N scaler and a fan of Bernie’s modeling and photography I really enjoyed it. That ant Tony K’s opening editorial are as far as I have gotten.
My LHS got the 06 MRP in on Tuesday, 2/21. The first issue is still my favorite, but this one is promising.
The drop leaf bridge sidebar in Don Mitchell’s article looks interesting. Bruce Chubb’s article has some good thoughts about being a little more protypical in my modeling. Still reading.
Sperandeo’s Workshop Tips booklet even has some good tips that do not require moving a computer into the train room.
I can always find something interesting if I read long enough.
