They must have more money then they now what to do with and not need any of mine. P!$$ poor service, I am not a happy camper!!!

A ways back Mark Hemphill, who used to be Editor of Trains Magazine, posted a good explanation of the variation in delivery dates of the magazine. Certainly the same principles apply in the case of Model Railroader Magazine. I’ll quote his post:

[quote]
QUOTE: Mark Hemphill: Here’s some info you might not know about magazines and mailing.

Most magazines are mailed in a very narrow window from the printer – one to three days, tops. Very large-circulation magazines such as National Geographic and People are printed regionally to obtain lower mailing costs, better delivery consistency, and to be able to sell regional advertising, but most magazines come from one press. The base rate for the typical magazine subscription is via second-class mail, a class that is extremely low-cost because it is handled on a space-available basis and has low service guarantees. The post office moves first-class mail first, then if there’s any space left in the truck, or time in the day, it sorts and moves the second-class and lesser-class mail. Because mailing volume is not flat – it varies widely by day of the week, time of the the month, and time of year – some days the second-class mail arriving at the post office moves expeditiously and other days it will gather dust for a week while the resources are devoted to meeting the first-class guarantee. Because mail moves on multiple sorts, each step of the process introduces a new opportunity for delay or missed connection. It is not unusual for a second-class mailing to be wildly inconsistent at a given address, especially if that address is at the end of a delivery chain that is badly stressed by growth, insufficient capacity, or poor management at one or more steps of the way. Every delivery chain is different right down to the level of the mail carrier’s route. If you get your magazine unusually early, all the cards lined up for you that month. If you get it late, you didn’t. If you’re having unusually bad delivery, complain to your local post office

Well, I haven’t gotten mine either, and I got my Trains a couple days ago…but I don’t really care, as long as it gets here. If it doesn’t, I’m thinking the mailman might be a model railroader…

I am on a first name bases with my mailman whom always makes sure I get any mail 1st class or otherwise on the day it arrives and he sorts it for they day on his route he knows I am waiting for this. I realize delays are inevitable but when states like califonia which are further from MRR get theres first it sucks and then add other folks in close poximity get theres it sucks even more like I said I can live with the late delivery even if I am an unhappy camper but I deplore the lack of response on the video questions.

hmm the mail man
he is human and cant resist

k

He has no interest in trains we have talked about this before he like beer and cars. But mabye that was just a rouse and he is secretly taking them for his MR empire

Will,

Have you tried phoning them ? You’ll probably get faster and better response by phoning their toll-free number. Often emailing a company is not the most efficient way to get information due to the volume of emails, particularly at busy times of the year (like Christmas and New Year’s).

Their Customer Sales and Service number is: 800-533-6644 (8:30am to 5:00pm CT).

As for slow (late) delivery of your subscription, you’re best to complain to the post office. Even though you’re on good terms with your mail carrier, the delays could be caused elsewhere in the postal system.

normally i buy MR at the local magazine store , i also browse the guitar and computer mags at the same time . MR consistantly arrives there sometime after the 13th of the month preceding the issue date , say the 13th of december for the january issue . this month i happened to be at my LHS on the 4th of january and the february issue was on the shelves ! i don’t know if they always get it that early of it was some kind of fluke .

sorry to hear yours is late . hope it will arrive soon

It’s been years since I subscribed to Trains. However, when I did, both my MR and Trains were delivered in the same plastic envelope. Of course now that no plastic envelope is used to mail MR maybe that is why.

I just received my Feb. MR a couple of days ago. I’m in West TN.

Jaime

Mine came on Tuesday the 3rd and I live in St Louis…

huh… that sucks for you guys, i got my issue the 30th

Yours don’t come in wrapped in plastic ?!?!?!?! [%-)]

Mine do.

  • Maybe its because MR’s Canadian distributor wraps them in plastic; or

  • Maybe its because I’m special. [swg]

I received both Model Railroader and Trains several days ago. I have read most of them already. I am in South Ga. I have found have good results by calling the publisher. Good Luck. Phil
