Mrs. [David] Popp gives a concert

Just got an email from Milwaukee’s Steinway (piano) gallery

http://steinwayofmilwaukee.com/

They have a regular concert series called Sandwich and a Steinway. Here is an upcoming program:

Wednesday, June 15, 2011 - Sandwich & a Steinway - In One Accord, featuring: Mary Keppeler (harp), Susan Wiedmeyer (vocals), and Ingrid Hanson-Popp (piano). Enjoy favorite Broadway hits, Hollywood’s finest movie memories, and a few jazz standards on this nostalgic show-time romp. Concert begins at noon. $2 Donation to the Steinway Society of Milwaukee.

Perhaps Mr Flexi will be turning pages?

…and this has something to do with model railroading???

Well, sure. The Steinway is N-scale, fully functional, and it’s in New Haven colors.

(David Popp is an MR staffer, and his New Haven layout frequently graces the pages of the magazine.)

I don’t understand this post, what does this have to do with model railroading, is there by some chance a train running around on top of the piano while the concert is going on? Is everyone in the audience dressed as train conductors? Exactly what is this all about?

Comedian Avery Schreiber was reviewing a symphony orchestra concert, and mentioned on the air that he would like to be a conductor. The only offer he got was from the Long Island Railroad.

Not totally correct. He actually received another offer to become a professional lightning arrester, but turned that job down because he didn’t think he’d get a charge out of working there.

He turned it down because he knew he’d be a poor conductor.

Really? A poor conductor? And I always thought he was such a live wire.

More likely he’ll be saying, “Hey, the wife’s out! Time for another operating session!”
