MRVP Layout Visit: Operating on Tony Koester’s Nickel Plate Road

Great does not describe this video, WOW, some superb views through the buildings. One complaint-its too SHORT! Let’s see more.

Tony, thanks for sharing this with us. Each of the recent videos help me understand how your layout actually works. Nice to see folks “playing” with trains. It’s a hobby so playing is not an insult.

Tony,
I am ever impressed by your projects. Another good position, if you have the people, would a carman. In your big busy yard, the carman could air test the train and give the crew bad order scenarios to set out cars. In your switch moves with the 789, at least your brakeman didn’t have to tie/untie all those brakes like a real operation. Thats a lot of work.

Wow! That was an unexpected surprise! Thanks MRVP.

I’ve watched this video over and over. Its exactly like railfanning the NKP, great operations. The video crew really got some nice pacing views. Outstanding work by all.

Watching and hearing the Train Order procedure was instructive. The only thing not shown was the Op repeating the order back for the DS to verify. I once sat in with a DS on the CPR at Lanigan SK when he was renewing Slow Orders and it reminded me of hearing the reading of the Psalms in a High Angllican church service.

WOW! That was a nice video. What a great model railroad. I have a LOT to learn about operations, so this was a good beginning. The idea of looking through the roundhouse saves space in the aisle and creates so really neat camera possibilities. I got a kick out of the fast footage at the end - it looked like the roundhouse was spitting out locos.

Tony are these all brass steamers or do you have some plastic? How do they compare during an operating session?

Wow! Didn’t know this was coming. Now we know why we saw so much of the passenger train on the earlier layout. Both videos are excellent and Tony’s layout is terrific.

I’d like to see more of these “ops” videos on Video Plus.

Beautiful layout and looks to be a blast to operate. After seeing this and the other video I wish I’d built mine as a double deck layout. Hope to see more OPS sessions from MR. Thanks!

Fantastic. I could watch this stuff all day. Especially good to see it all come to fruition, after following the building of the layout for some years. More, please!

very nice layout and great ops session

Excellent video. I enjoyed NP SL div, Operations Hand Singles, and Basic operation running the river job.

Nice video introduction to operation on Tony’s layout. Echo the sentiments of others wanting to see more of this kind of video, including Tony’s layout and others.

Wow! Totally fantastic!

Nice presentation as always Tony. It is so refreshing to see a video of an operating layout rather than a video of a train running around a layout and running around

More please … this video could only be better if it was three times as long.

I really like the street scenes beyond the tracks. Reflect small-town America. Great job.

Now, that was an excellent video. Some very good videography (through the roundhouse back wall). Thanks very much.
