MRVP Layout Visit: Paul Dolkos’ Baltimore Harbor District in HO scale

Fantastic Layout!!! What a great idea for scratch building, I’m going to give that a try

Absolutely beautiful model railroad. Fun to watch and providing plenty of inspiration and ideas, as are the articles in MR by Mr, Dolkos.

Thanks MRVP, a very enjoyable layout visit.

I have always been a fan of Paul’s modeling, I have learned a great wealth of ideas from this layout and will use many of his ideas on my own someday layout.

I had the pleasure of meeting Paul many years ago and getting a private viewing of one of his clinics. Interestingly enough, my family owned a wholesale meat company on Pratt Street that unloaded reefers very early in the morning right on the street tracks. They had to get this done by a certain time so the reefers could be moved out of the way for automobile and truck traffic.

Paul, what a great layout with lots of detail and switching.

Wow, that is a sweet layout Paul. Nice modeling and trackwork and plenty of operation opportunities. Thanks for sharing your work. I’m reading the articles in MR as well.

Beautiful layout! I have always been a fan of Paul’s modeling and he seems like a very nice man too!

Paul,
Your published work and your modeling have been an inspiration to me since December, 1975 when I read your article in MR on the urban scenery of the Severna Park club layout. Forty years hence, your work still sets the bar. Thanks for sharing your beautiful layout with us, and thanks to Kent, Ben and the MRVP crew for a creating a great layout video.

I was hoping there was going to be some video to go along with Paul’s build articles in Model Railroader. Thank you for this inclusion!

Great article/photos in MR, but this video really brings it to life! Now I have even more ideas to incorporate into my layout. Thanks for sharing.

Thank-you Mr. Dolkos for the interesting and informative video. You are a good narrator and the video showed alot of details and interesting scenes.

I especially liked the segment about how you built buildings using illustration board. I will have to try that. I model N scale and I hope the smaller scale will look as good as your fabulous buildings. Perhaps a separate MRVP video or MR article on your building design?

We need to find a new word that is better than “brilliant” to describe the model work of Paul Dolkos and Mike Danneman.

This is a FINE model and looks like it would be fun to operate

Nice railroad Paul and with superb scenes. Beautifully built. Thanks for a terrific video.

Excellent model railroad, Paul. I have been following your articles for some time now. I also like the way you blend flex track and handmade switches on your layout. I do the same myself to save time and money. Photos of building on illustration board I will have to try that.
Thanks
Curt Dennis

Great tip about adding some depth to the windows to help give the illusion that the buildings are 3-D.

Paul, Sad to see the B&M New Hampshire Division is now a fallen flag, but on the positive side, it looks like its been replaced by an even greater Model Railroad. I’m looking forward to seeing future videos and articles on your Baltimore Harbor District layout.

That was an awesome video. Great tip on representing the row houses. Very enjoyable, compliments the written article in the recent magazine quite well.
