Come on, guys, we’re not doing this again, are we?[V] It’s one thing to razz another poster about something he’s written or spelled wrong, but this is something different. Have a heart. Anyone coming on this forum, and reading this thread, wouldn’t be able to tell that you two know and share so much information about railroads in the Chicago area and beyond. All they would see, is two posters picking on another poster about his spelling and grammer, simply for their own amusement. Is that how you want others to perceive you? Does it add anything to the forum, or does it just make Bergie’s job more difficult. I believe you could do better.
If you just have to pick on somebody for something, pick on me. I’m a Norweigan, and I’m used to being razzed about it.
You sound like you’ve had a bad day. Is your parrot pining for the fjords or pushing up daisies?
[:P]
Seriously though, you’re right. This person posted here for information, and we should oblige this desire, whether or not he spells Helens two different incorrect ways…
I can spell, I just can"t type well anymore. They didn;t say anythingpersonal or mean… I see it more as harmles teasing than being malicous. tho i can’t figure out what he wants either.
Whoops, sorry, this guys is actually the Swedish Chef…oh well, Norwegian or Swedish, whatever.
Actually I have always found that if nobody corrects a mistake (either the person who originally made the mistake or somebody else trying to make sure it doesn’t happen again by the same person) then nothing is likely to be corrected…SOOOOOO, we need to good heartedly jab at our youth when they make a mistake or they will NEVER correct their mistakes (this is why we have or HAD meaningful grading systems in school, to alert the students when they were not effectively learning their lessons and thus were not meeting established standards…not that that means anything to anybody in school anymore, but that’s another story altogether)
Seriously, I DO hope the original poster continues to participate and that he/she has learned something good from our jabs.
Fair enough explanation Jim. In that same context, there must be a very fine line between putting somebody down, and simply poking fun at them. I’m not sure that it’s fair to assume the poster is a youth, simply because of the grammer, either.
Now, on the other hand, confusing Swedes and Norweigans![:O]
Bob (Spokyone) probably has it right–does anyone know about the restoration of an SP&S car named Mt. St. Helens?
Some of us are too busy, too impatient, or too whatever else to attempt to wade through unintelligible posts. Thanks, Bob, especially if you’re right! I wish I had an answer. Bigboy, please make an effort to use proper capitalization, punctuation, and spelling to the best of your ability in the future–it will garner better responses from everyone.
OK, so some people have trouble spelling. They obviously can use a computer – so can’t they use a free online dictionary to check any words they may be fuzzy about? Is it so difficult to go back and edit a post after submitting it? There are also free shareware spell checkers available, designed to fix errors in blog and forum submissions. I find it difficult to take seriously anyone who doesn’t care about how others perceive them in a situation where content, spelling and grammar are about the only barometers for measuring respect. Communicating smoothly is how you earn others’ respect.
Thank you, PZ. I admit to being a cantankerous old coot, but failure to at least come close to proper spelling and capitalization is a sign of either (a) laziness or (b) disrespect for those who will read one’s posts. My typing skills are nothing to brag about, so I’m not going to fuss about the occasional spelling/typing error, but it’s easy to tell when someone is trying and when they aren’t. (End of rant)
[:(!][censored]i am sorry that my spelling is bad, and my grammer was not good with this post. i was trying to get it written, as my sister was bugging me to use the computer for homework. ther really needs to be spellcheck in the toolbox. big boy[:(!][censored]
Grammar, son. G-r-a-m-m-a-r. This is a good lesson in life. People will always judge you based on your appearance and your ability to speak, spell and write. You could end up being the best person applying for a really great job someday and won’t get it because of your lack of communication skills. Fair or not, that is a fact of life. Another thing you don’t want to do if you hope for a decent job is get a neck or face tat.[(-D]
