That second Av subway has been a windfall for the construction companies, geez how long and how much has that project cost so far?

I find the “Penn Station Access” project the most interesting of all. MTA must be assuming that slots will open in the East River Tunnels and at Penn Station commensurate with the number of LIRR trains that will go to/from Grand Central when East Side Access goes operational.

But New Jersey Transit may have a little something to say on
how those slots are apportioned. NJT has recently implemented, for the first time ever, through service to/from the Raritan Valley Line in the form of 10 trains (5 each way) midday weekday off-peak only. Finally, those dual-mode locomotives NJT bought are being used as they were intended.

I read they would like to expand that service in the post-peak evenings/nights. I’m sure they want more RVL access but they can’t have it until the so-called “Gateway Tunnels” are built as well as Penn Station track and platform expansion is done.

So I think MTA is going to have a fight on its hands for those slots vacated by LIRR. IMHO, the RVL riders, who westbound are forced to transfer, which involves a change of platforms (downstairs and back up to the westernmost platform at Penn Station) are the more deserving.

Not only is that going to be an issue but it will entail a major expense to add capacity on the Hell Gate Line in the east Bronx. The route will have to accommodate overtakes by Amtrak trains operating non-stop to/from Penn Station.

MNRR has to take on their PTCC program before they can ever think of going 135 feet over the East River.

When are the Newswire editors going to deploy a fix for these repeated submissions that sometimes take up a whole page???
