It will work on anything that requires an on/off switch. The OGR tape even show it turning on a coffee pot.
Spankybird is right, you can control all manner of accessories with the AIU. The first thing I did with mine was to set it up to control my layout lights. I programmed the handheld with a “DAYTIME LIGHTS” softkey. When it’s ON, the building and street lights are off, the traffic lights sequence normally, and the guy in the gas station is welding under a car. When it’s OFF, the traffic lights switch to alternate flashing, the welding effect stops, and the building and street lights come on.
My next task will be setting up the AUI to control my Atlas O switches. Eventually I will set it up to operate some of the lighting separately, and to control my operating accessories. The uses for the AIU are basically limited only by your imagination, so I recommend you go for it and enjoy!
