MTH Control Issues ll

If anyone switched over to MTH DCS control system the new 4.02 version is almost ready for release. It’s in beta testing I’ve read. It should eliminate the few bugs that popped up with 4.01.

There’s some exiting new features coming up with a quilable whistle, and even smoke coming out of the whistle, when the new engines will be equipped with second smoke unit. I’ve even heard of the DCS working with DCC in upcoming versions.

Keep ya posted, Joe P.

DCS 4.02 is now released for MTH control systems. I just downloaded and will begin to try it. It’s cool that for a few minutes of your time you can update the system without leaving the house. Joe P.

I have been on the fence on MTH. How well does their system work. How is the smoke units. One og my gripes of my beloved LGB is the whimpy smoke.

The system works great but can envolve a little research to set up at first. There is a lot more control and expansion capabilities. Take a look at this site if you’d like

http://www.rayman4449.dynip.com/ it gives an idea of the capabilities.

I thought of my own site but it wouldn’t do justice. The smoke system in the steam engines ( and it’s in their diesels) is the best I’ve seen. You gotta see it in person. I shot it on video but it does not show up good when I transfer the tape to digital. I’d say seeing this system come over from O gauge with their new releases of equipment might just change the face of G gauge. At least what’s going to be “standard equipment” (built in smoke, sound, and control) for a very reasonable price. Joe P.

Thanks for the info. I have a MTH O starter steam set and the smoke is outstanding and I liked the remote control abilities. I did not know how this would translate to large scale.

When I started this post I did not mean to imply I was an expert. I thought we should start a discussion for DCS like they have on other forums. Some Lionel fans object to my point of view but they don’t offer G scale other than some small attempts. There system would work in G but has some disadvantages too. This system (MTH) will be in the mainstream with Tmcc,DCC, conventional, and wireless. More complex control leads to a few problems. My DCC got so complex for me that I left it. This DCS is great and needs some fine tuning if problems develop. Because it was not used heavily in G gauge before there is a lot of info from the O scale community that is way ahead on this. I get contacted by people that have so much more equipment than I do. They have tried things I never even have thought of. I’m learning everyday. I’m amazed that it kind’a stays underground about the solutions. So if you read on about DCS and think it’s cool you should be able to get help from somewhere like here, and not be left with thinking you can’t try it. Alot of great systems are out there and each has its advantages. I prefer this one hands down. It’s cheaper and still offers more features. Just my opinion, Joe Paonessa
