Recently, I had the opportunity to see this locomotive in action.
It was love at first sight! I will plan to work as much overtime as needed to include this in my collection. Honestly, I looked at stunning brass renditions and will settle for all the extras MTH offers with this unit. Bang for buck! I say. Everybody give some input. Agree or not. But by all means CHECK IT OUT!
I have to admit, I’m a collector of unique locomotives. I purchased two Bi-polars, for my collection. My hat is off to Mike Wolf for bring out these locomotives. I hope that MTH continues bring out other historically significant locomotives. That would have only been available in brass.
I also have added one of these to my collection. Am very impressed with the Loco and its operations.
Can’t wait to see what MTH will bring out next.
Have been waiting for a non brass BI- Polar for years.
Excellent model. Sounds, runs great.
At this time, 6 Walthers Hiawatha passenger cars up a 2% grade without slippage is all it would do.
Maybe with some additional run time this might improve.
Overall, very pleased.
One item I have never seen mentioned in electric loco reviews is the height above rails of an extended pantograph. Does a raised pan fit into the Plate C height restriction, or is it higher? (above an NMRA gage) If so, a raised pan could create clearance problems on layout with tunnels or a low inside bridge measurement. Also, I assume that MTH has provided instructions on replacing their electric couplers with Kadees so that you can couple quietly and slowly onto a passenger train rather than ramming it at 25 scale mph.
