MTH Electric Trains HO scale SD70ACe diesel locomotive

I like the first unit I bought and still waiting for shipment of a second one. I’m a bit dismayed with the problematic consist situation. Will this up grade be available soon and will it cost extra?

Thanks,

Looks real good an, I would like to try one.

The D&RGW locomotive that I purchased was wired backwards for DC operation. After emailing back and forth with MTH, I was asked to return the unit for repair of the wiring problem. One drawback is that there is no exploded diagram or parts list included with the unit and therefore no way to know how to safely remove the shell to get to the motor, etc. This oversight does not affect the product rating I gave the locomotive. I know of one other unit, bought at the same hobby shop, that was also wired backwards. Otherwise, a very, very nice looking locomotive with great detail.

Great proto!

I operate one of these new models on a small test track and found it to be as good or better than any other engines I own including the best of Athearn, Atlas, Bachman, Proto ect. The handrails are all metal and the detail approaches museum quality. At $220.00 average discount price this is a better value than most offerings on the market at this time. With the free electronics upgrade coming there is little doubt about MTH product support and comitment to quality. I have more of these models ordered to make a unique MTH consist and will probably buy a DCS commander to add to my DCC system.

Couplers a foot too long and that require you to strike your train at spped to couple. This is an improvement? Can these couplers be replaced by standard Kadees? Also doesn’t sound like the decoder upgrade will give the full functionality of a Soundtraxx or QSI. If only they sold a version with no decoder installed. Maybe someday, since the mechanism and details are good quality.

I just got this model, and wow…what great locomotive. I already have 3 others on order, and will most likely buy a couple of more. The features are fantastic, and the automatic couplers, really great. Guys in my train club really like it. It was easy to program on DCC, as we have Digitrax at our club.
MTH did a fantastic job on this. You will not be disapointed when you by one.

The truck detail doesn’t look at all realistic enough for me. But it seems to be a real value for operators who want a unique looking contemporary locomotive.

I’ve read where the free upgrade to support advance consisting will require a DCS controller. If that’s true, then that’s hardly “free” for DCC operators.

By far one of the most impresive locomotives available. For those who haven’t owned one before, like me, you will be impressed. Great sound, functions, operation and detail we keep me buying and experiencing MTH locomotives.

I received my first SD70ACe cab # 8321 in october.
It ran beautifully for about 2 days but then all sounds just disappeared. After several e-mail exchanges with the hobbyshop
and MTH, I returned the loco to MTH for a warranty repair and
that is the situation right now. I hope they can fix it before I decide to purchase any more of them.

great loco. comparable to atlas gold and athearn genesis. Hope there will be smoke in the future.

I want one for Christmas.

I bought 2 CSX units they both run flawlessly

I hope they continue building new products.
I am very satisfied with this model.
I do not main to pay for a quality product.
Keep the good work

i only have four mth ho engines all steam so far challengers to northerns,i think they are best ready to run engines. only ones close is bli pargon …an there brass hybrides. i have over 20 steam engines most bli , sound on par with qsi revolutions in my dicast big boys an y6b…when they straighen out the consist proublem they are going to be hard to beat

my wife is getting me two for christmas, I only know because the hobby shop owner is a good friend and keeps telling me they are on back order!!! hey.

I have the Rio Grande model I purchased last Sept. Looks and runs great. The only problem I have is the sound stopped working for no apparent reason soon after purchase and is still in the shop for repairs. Listening to my hobby shop owner, this seems to be a problem with mostly the BNSF versions. Hope I didnt get a lemon.

I got my first SD70ACe UP #8321 three weeks ago. Thank God i have no problems with the sound. I´m very pleased with my MTH SD70Ace!
