Have anyone bought the MTH Big Boy? Any review? I am curious about your opinions especially comparing it to the BLI Blueline one.
Cheers!

Arek, I just watched the video of the MTH Big Boy. I like the whistle, but the chuff sounded a little weak. As as detail, I am pretty sure they will be the same as the BLI / PCM Big Boys. Reason is because of the lawsuit MTH won.
I did not check the prices of the MTH, but I would guess it would be over the $550.00 mark.
While I don’t have a Blue Line Big Boy, I do have the PCM version. I have seen the Blue Line and it looks the same as my PCM. If you can get BLI one for around $300.00 which they had been selling for, I save the cash.

I picked up one of the BLI Blueline Big Boys off of Ebay a manth or so ago, as Ken said it appears to be a twin to the PCM version which means it’s also probably a twin to the MTH version, the only major difference being the electronics and the price. I got mine for $225. Interestingly the exact same “list” price as a Tenshodo in 1972…
Unless you’re hung up on the MTH electronics I’d go for the BLI Blueline version and save a fistfull of Ca$h. For $500+ you can pick up a brass one and have a really fine locomotive that will be with you for many, many years.

The Blue Line whistle wins hands down. The MTH whistle is the same one they used for their Class J which is odd.
That being said, I refuse to buy Blue Lines any more because of all the problems I have had with them.
I have had better luck with the Blue Line Engines than the BLI Paragons Steam Engines my self.
