I will definately be getting one of these. [tup] And it has illuminated number boards and marker lamps on the tender!
This is weird - why does it have wire harness running between engine and tender? I though all MTH HO engines had connection integrated into draw bar.
That’s a first run Proto 2000 2-8-4 in the photo. You can tell by the wheel counterweights, which extend all the way to the rim.
I wonder which one is better? The updated P2K 2-8-4, or the new one from MTH? Either way, I’m sticking with my old Rivarossi 2-8-4.[:D]
My bad, the picture is not of the MTH version, don’t worry though, in the info sheet on the link, it says wireless tether.
Funny, but I will admit to thinking to myself, “Others have wondered why MTH engines, especially, have such a pronounced vacant space between the firebox and the truck. Now I see what they mean.” Yet, it turns out to be the P2K version after all. Same diff…for those who are sticklers, it should be one of the first improvements for a steamer…put “something” black as a filler just above the truck. You don’t need much of a gap, just enough to let the truck handle your HO track irregularities. It doesn’t even have to be very wide…something only 10 mm in thickness from side to side would do wonders for filling that light-filled void.
Didn’t Doc Wayne or somebody else contribute to such a discussion two or more years ago on this forum? It might be worth discussing an easy fix once more.
Again, it would be important only to those who feel they want a more prototypical look.

The distance between the cab and tender is far too wide, take a look at a good side view of an actual locomotive.
