I had the opportunity to pick up a MTH HO K-4 colored in Tuscan red. Before it arrived I looked over past posts on MR debating if a tuscon red K-4 really existed. The comments went back and forth supporting and denying the engine. It was very interesting.
All I would like to say is the engine arrived and let me tell you if the engine existed and MTH matched the color of the engine exactly, well it must of been a beautiful site to see. This engine I got looks so beautiful. The Tuscan red on the engine and the tender is spectacular.
Can you post a picture? I have never seen one in Tuscan Red. Unfortuunately about 99% of actual K-4 pictures are in black and white. Maybe it was painted that color for a special occasion.
I have a PRR book that states they did exist, but no pictures could be found. All of the older pictures in the books were b/w and that makes the ones painted in Tuscan impossible to identify.
The MTH engine does look great, but no idea if it’s a “foobie” or not. PRR did have some (one?) streamlined K-4 engines that were red, but I’ve never seen / heard of one like this one.
I looked the K-4 up on the MTH website. You are right, it is a sharp looking loco. It would be interesting to be able to learn more about it. What book talks about it?
