Has anybody seen or heard any more about the MTH Norfolk & Western HO scale passenger cars? I searched their website but see no info on them. Did they scrap the idea?
Obviously you should email MTH. I doubt they watch this forums.

That was informative…
Last I checked, they were scheduled for a July release. This was a change from the original April release. Hopefully they will follow through with correct cars. With all the J’s out there between BLI, Bachmann, and MTH, I would think there will be a lot of demand.
I wouldn’t waste my time trying to email them. I’ve been trying to get more information about the Powhatan Arrow cars for several months with no response of any sort. They have them listed & shown improperly on their site and I was trying to verify what I was going to pre-order so I didn’t get stuck with several P-1 or P-2 coaches rather than the many P-3s I need.
Like many other manufacturers they just don’t reply to customer emails. The same thing happened with PCM when they listed their N&W CF cabin cars.
My 2¢,

They sure as *%#@%% don’t seem to EVER reply to emails! I’ve emailed them TWICE asking them if the drawbar between loco and tender on the HO J-class can be adjusted or shortened to close that gap that, to me, looks so bad. Otherwise, the engine looks really nice. THEY JUST WON’T ANSWER ME! They may have sold me a locomotive by now, but I guess they don’t need the money! Last night I went on their website and could not find any sign of the Powhattan Arrow car set. I can’t figure out how to negotiate their website anyway…
MTH website sucks, no question there. But has there been any real update about “Arrow” conists availability?
If you want info on these cars, you have to go the the MTH HO catalog. They publish their catalog in two volumes and Volume 2 is the HO catalog if memory serves me correctly. Anyhow all the cars you mentioned are listed and described both individually and in a trainset. Individual cars are listed at $69.00 each and the trainsets are $499.00. Dealers should have the catalogs or MTH’s Customer Service Dept. can mail one to you. There is a cost associated as the catalogs are not free.
The cars are still on several future products at major hobby shops on the web. The last schedule that I found has preorder date of July 2010. They may have slipped their orginal schedule.

The data below is from the MTH web site and lists June 2010 as a shipping date. Who do you trust???
Product Line:
Roadname: Norfolk & Western
I have asked my dealer to look into these as well. I saw a due date of June 2010 and then it slipped to Sept 2010 - it now being November, I still have no idea if these are available yet… They also have the NYC 20th Century cars to do…
Have you thought about using that device they call a “telephone” ??? They sure answer their phone, I’ve called them several times. Don’t count on emails for important questions. Call them up and talk to a live person, I’m sure they would be happy to answer your questions.
Good lord, calm down, take a deep breath…
Don’t you get it? Mike Wolf does not care about your drawbar concern. How dare you question the engineering experts at MTH. They are by all account, God’s greatest gift to Model Railroading and should not be questioned.
You should consider it a privilege to even own a MTH train and just be quiet and wait for those passenger cars.

I got in touch “BY PHONE” with MTH and bought 2 drawbars from them that are shorter than the one installed on my Mohawk. They were pretty helpful actually, Midge at their service seem to be aware of the concern. I had a small part that I need to send to them for warranty repair and decided, what the heck, might as well buy shorter drawbars.
The only issue is that drawbars are hard wired on the locomotive end. This means that if you want to replace drawbar you have to take off the boiler. Which means you need to remove couple of grab irons. Rather than remove grabs, I decided to mod the drawbar already installed. It’s rather delicate operation and took me the whole evening - but the results are excellent. I’ll post pictures later on.
For the reference: Mohawk drawbar is 30mm hole to hole. I bought 1 Berkshire (25mm) and UP 9000 (22mm I believe). In the end I just shortened drawbar already installed on Mohawk to 25mm. The only issue now is I have to get a better deck plate (MTH plate is made of plastic) and remove deck plate mounting pegs, which are rather crude. Otherwise model now looks exquisite with a nice spacing between loco and the tender.
I have found that they are very responsive on their facebook page. Might be worth your time asking about the N&W cars.
That made me laugh, and its so true.
The Powhattan Arrow cars(and all the 5 car passenger sets) have been pushed back until spring of 2011. If I remember correctly, I think it says April 2011 - which is good for me cause I have 8 SD70ACe comfort cabs and 6 Gevos coming I’ve got to pay for soon. The farther off the arrival date is, the better for me to recover.
There was such a large surge of demand for the SP daylight sets and chair cars, that they ended up producing more to meet demand -this pushed a lot of other things back a while.
MTH is planning a re-run of many of their steam locomotives with the new Protosound3E+ and also a new configuration for Marklin track users.
If you visit the website, select ‘Delivery Schedule’, type in the item number and select the filter for HO, it will take you right to all the estimated arrival dates for future products.
If you don’t know the item number, just type in the description.
The drawbar replacements are available directly from MTH - just contact their parts dept and give them the item number of the engine you are needing the part for. There is a $10.00 minimum order charge.
Midge Wilburn and company are some of the very best and pleasent customer service people I’ve dealt with and can assure you that if you call, you’ll get an answer or a call back.
Some of you guys need to relax - its not that hard to use the website.
Good luck

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa? More info please!
MTH has announced in the latest Catalog, a re-run of several of their most popular locomotives with a new version of the Protosound called 3E+ - also, they are going to make available(different part number)several models that will be compatible with Marklin HO track(incorporating a tiny shoe that will pick up AC current(middle rail)
I don’t know how popular this will be but apparently, there is a large demand in Europe and US for this.
You can read all this at their website. Or , subscribe to the newsletter.
Thanks,
