Let’s see, Jim, this is your first post, and you’ve been a member of the forum since…today. That means you’ve very recently checked the little box that says you agree to abide by the forum’s rules, among which is No Advertising. If this had been from someone who we know, someone who posts regularly, I would have taken it as an informational post. But, when we get one like this from a total stranger, well, it’s:

Take it easy,

He’s not lying. Unless the MTH newsletter I receved this morning in my email is a fake. (and I highly dought that). He’s not advertising ether, he’s just making everyone who’s preordered and has been whining about the shipping delays for the last few months happy.

Cheers,

Jamie

Mr. Beasley, absolutely unbelievable. How old are you anyway. This forum is not for gibberish. Jamie you are right on.

How do the factory applied paint and graphics compare to those airbrused on, by someone with experience?

Nah, it’s not spam unless it includes something about the great price he got on them at www.cheaperthanyourLHSbuysthematwholesale.com.

Shame, After waiting for months I spent the money on a pair of Atlas GP40-2 Golds and love them.

Since they’re shipping today they’ll probably be available in 2 months since they’re probably shipping from China today [:D]

I’d be interested in seeing a review of them when they arrive including the dcc coupler.

Yup every time MTH has a new product someone “new” pops up over here and posts. Just another sign of the questionable marketing practices and take-em-to-court happy mentality at MTH. This is why I will never buy any of their products.

Depends i’ve had models come out better then some factory painted models, all comes down to how much time you want to spend on it

Is Athearn making the SD70ACE? If so (and if I ever wanted one), I think I’d wait for the Athearn. Some people will be happy with those MTHs, I’m sure, but at least Athearn would be smart enough to make a DC version. (I know the MTH runs on DC, but with the way the others are, it’ll probably only go 3.14 scale MPH)

i had been waiting for the locos to be released … then i read in some forums that the locos would not give the same functions in DCC compared to the DCS system i wrote to them and got a reply… no info just an announcement that they are arriving soon … i sent another email asking if they had read my email i said i didnot want to waste money on 4 x locos if they are not 100 % the same as my kato atlas etc … i got an email refering me to the MTH website… sorry not good enough looks like my $1000 may be going to athearn

The previous post captures the essence of taking product differentiation and making it a negative as perceived by potential customers. And then adding less than candid responses to legitimate customer inquiries casts the company into a real bad light.

I agree, why would I want a locomotive that is not operationally compatible with the rest of my fleet?

yes they are actually

MisterBeasley,
Actually, it’s not Spam. “Spam”, besides being a tasty treat in a can, is “Irrelevant or inappropriate messages sent on the Internet to a large number of newsgroups or users.” - Wiki. A single advertisement without so much as a link? Meh. Not so much.

What our good buddy JimRK here is, IMHO, what’s called a “shill”. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shill

A shill is someone who poses as an interested consumer who actually has ties to the company he’s promoting. As in an old carnival where an employee mingles in the crowd and talks up what a huckster is selling so the rubes will buy it. MTH has been known to employ shills both here an on the Atlas Forum. Heck, IIRC they even had shills on the newsgroup rec.models.railroad way back in the day.

Because of this confirmed use of shills in the past by MTH (Atlas recently busted another one about a month or two ago), any new poster who registers on the same day they post a thread promoting MTH is instantly suspect.

Wow, those Athearn/T55s look like they’re going to be great![:D] Definitely waiting.[:D]

Yes, I agree. But, Google “images” comes up with so many great pictures for “Spam…”

I’m really disappointed in MTH for doing this again, and I’m actually surprised that they’ve gone down this path. From what I remember of our former resident MTH “troll,” Ted E. Bear, every thread he posted in turned into a flame war and had had to be shut down. It turned many of us against MTH, both as a model builder and as a corporate entity. Even though this is primarily an HO and N gauge forum, and MTH at the time was exclusively in O gauge, most of us had a very negative image of them.

This started to change a couple of years back, when Kalmbach did a major change to the forum software, which allowed them to better monitor “troll” behavior. Ted E. Bear has not been seen since. Of course, this was happening about the same time that MTH led the charge against the UP licensing fiasco, and their leadership and ultimate victory gave us all reason to hope.

Since then, we have not had “troll” or “shill” posts from MTH. Their models in HO have been generally well-reviewed. Perhaps more important, they have added DCC compatability to their proprietary DCS decoders, so those with DCC systems can actually run and appreciated these engines. People I’ve spoken to who actually have these engines are really prett

Mr Beasley, Paul 3 get a life. All I did was post some news that was already out on other forums, for those on this forum who do buy MTH and have been waiting for a shpg date. Excuse me for speaking the truth, but people really do buy MTH HO. I have nothing to do with MTH other than run a couple of thier engines along with other mfrs. on DCC (NCE Pro Cab, 28 functions) with no problems in 3 years. Let people buy what they want, and let mfrs. invest money to build and market what they want. You have freedom of choice to buy, they have freedom of choice to mfr. Freedom is what our society is all about. If you want to put them out of business , don’t buy the product rather than take up space with the same old rantings , over and over, and over, and over. Hey we get it, you do not like MTH. As I said , DO NOT BUY THE PRODUCT. A lot of other posts on this forum announce shpg, dates and mfr. names without the venom that spews when the name MTH is mentioned. I have posted on this forum before although it has been some time , and the forum would not accept me, so I re- registered. Simple as that. This is my last comment on the subject, so I guess that means I will get a barrage of comments from “superior intellects” far removed from the human race.

Another feature that I believe is not DCC compatible with MTH is advanced consisting. Also they don’t use the standard speed curves, but scale mph. Speed step 1 is 1 smph etc. Atlas has this as an option also but beware of consisting with other brands.

Here’s a forum I read on it.

http://www.modelrailroadforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12919

““superior intellects” far removed from the human race.” that sounds like a discription of Mike Wolf and his views on this hobby. I get it, he can act that way because he has money and owns a model making company, but our opinions are worthless.

Well, I’m not good enough by Mike Wolf’s standards to even be allowed to buy one of his locomotives because I don’t have or want DCS or DCC and his locomotives will not perform in a satisfactory manner on my 13.8 volts DC that ALL, REPEAT ALL, my other locomotives work PERFECTLY on.

But of course it is me and all the other modelers and manufacturers in the last 80 years or so of HO model trains who are wrong and MTH is right. And I’m just a stupid and backward for not getting with the program. I guess my money is not the right color green.

If I was even remotely interested in a SD70ACE (whatever that is? its still 1954 on my layout), I would happily wait for Athearn, a company that actually wants to sell me trains that work on my existing system.

But what do I know, I’m just a hick with a pickup, a gun and a few HO trains.
