MTH launches hurricane relief effort

MTH Electric Trains has announced an initiative to get the O gauge hobby community involved in a major relief effort for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Details of the program are presented on the MTH web site: http://www.mth-railking.com/

According to MTH, all profits from the program will go to the American Red Cross.

Looks like another way for railfans to help

Hmm. . . guess I should have checked that link after I first posted it. Thanks for the heads-up! I have corrected the link given in my earlier post.

Everyone is jumping on the “bandwagon” which is good. Hope it gets to where it is needed.

While I think it’s better to give the $50 directly to red-cross, doing both is better yet!!

I think I’ll get the KDKA car. KDKA was supposed to have a 6-car series where each car featured something special from different decades. For some reason it stopped after the 3rd car, and just when things were starting to reach the more modern years (if you call the 50s ‘modern years’!) This car could be considered as KDKAs continuation of the series and represents the '00 decade. So it’s a win/win as far as I’m concerned.

I visited my local Lowes Home Improvement store this morning and they will match your donations to the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund dollar for dollar. Seems to me that’s a better way of helping our fellow Americans.

In todays world of “gimme-gimme-gimme”, “me-me-me”, corporate greed, and all else that surrounds personal importance, this will certianly appeal to them. So why shouldn’t MTH market to them? I applaud MTH in doing this. They are certianly donating their time and effort to making a difference. Thats not saying that anyone who buys these cars are greedy or mean, by no means is that true. But it is getting a buck out of someone who might not donate any other way.

Way to go MTH!!!

Great Job MTH and partners!

Your kindness in this disaster is amazing! The car will be a good reminder in the years to come to donate even when need is not the greatest, and more importantly -
all our lives are fragile.

It doesn’t make any difference if you donate cause it makes you feel good, or it makes you look “cool” on this train forum or others, or it’s a tax deductable, or if you get a toy train boxcar, or Darth Vader came down from the Planet Vulcan and said he would melt your brain if you didn’t, or you know people affected, or everyone else was donating, or your employer at the “Lollypop Guild” matches your contributions, or the preacher at the “Church of the Sacred Bleeding Trackside Accessory” passed around a basket, or you would feel guilty if you didn’t, or some hot chick celebrity on the talking picture box asked you to, or countless other reasons…
the important part is to donate or help out any way you can!

$100 will feed a family displaced by the hurricane for a week.
$100 can also provide basic personal health supplies to 50 displaced people.
$140 will transport 200 blankets to people in temporary shelters.
