mth lawsuit affect on broadway limited t-1s

What exactly has been disabled on this loco and how does it affect original performance specs? thanks, dan

Hi Dan;

Now it will not maintain speed independent of load (ie going up hills), now it will slow down as the load increases - for instance going up hills - which is more prototypically correct. Personally, I would have turned the feature off anyway…

I did not want to start a new thread, but what about eh PRR 4-8-2’s have they ben affected?

If you just check Broadway Limited’s Web site you’ll find that they have disabled automatic load compensation, and everything else still works as originally designed. So now, a locomotive will slow down as it goes up a gradient and speed up as it goes downhill, instead of the decoder automatically compensating for the difference in the load on the engine.

Thats fine with me. I just hope nothing else happens to BLI before my #3751 comes out!

Better check any engine coming from BLI. The G"s had broken gears in the drive train. The T-1s strip their universals. The M1s have numerous missing parts from marker lights to wheel sets and trucks and the decoder is nonfunctioning in most when received which causes a dead on the rails condition. I would be leery of buying any BLI engine sight unseen and untested at this point. Most people have been promised and received repairs but some mailings have gone as many as three times with no response.

Thanks for the heads up, Ill be testing it out tomorrow morning.

I have not seen the problems with BLI that the above folks have espoused. Communication with the company has been great. I own a NYC J1e.

I tested it out and ended up purchasing it. All the parts were in place and the load compsenstation was indeed disabled by BLI because of MTH dispute. It is not an issue with me.

The M1a did have a fake coupler held in place (Front pilot) by a pair of “clips” I suppose one could remove the fake coupler and install a Kaydee Coupler on there but it will require surgery similar to the Athearn Genesis coupler.

I am not going to make a thread except that I [V] of engine makers who are willing to create a 300 dollar machine yet fail to include a working front coupler. That is not acceptable to me. And that is all I have to say about it in a nice way. [soapbox]
