MTH "Loco Sound"

I recently puchased a MTH Railking Set that has a 2-8-0 Santa Fe Consolidation (type) steamer. The engines has great graphics, proto-smoke, and Loco Sounds. The Loco Sounds reminds me in many ways of the MPC era Mighty Sound of Steam, including the electronic whistle. That said, are there any “gremlins” I need to be aware of with Loco Sound ?? Thanks Ken

The Mighty Sound of Steam was a pure analog system that used a white noise generator for the hiss and a reed switch or voltage controlled oscillator for the chuff. There was also an analog circuit that mimicked a Post War air whistle. Not bad for $25-$30.

Loco Sounds is a digitally synthesized sound system, sort of what you get on a digital watch. I’ve got some subway sets with Loco Sounds and I keep the sound volume turned all the way down. To me these sounds don’t sound anything like a subway or any type of train I’ve ever heard.

If you like it, great. The only cases I’ve seen of LocoSound failures were actually speaker failures.
