I just noticed that MTH is coming out with a NYC SD70ACe Diesel Engine (Product Number: 20-20086-1) in the old NYC “lightning stipes” paint scheme. Is this another fantasy paint scheme or is Conrail actually going to paint some locos in this color?

When I see a scale model product, I too, won’t buy it, unless it is mostly prototypically designed.
As, beautiful as some items are, I’ll first check, as Deputy did with the this forum, or try to find a photo. of the ‘Real Deal,’ which at times is difficult.

It would be cool if CSX and NS were to paint up some fallen flags engines, following the lead of UP. It would take some “brass hats” with an infinity for the past, to push the effort forward. Imagine seeing SD70’s painted up in B&O,Western Maryland,L & N and Seaboard, as well as AC44s adorning Pennsy,C&O and Reading schemes. This is frequently disussed amongst railfans, but probably never gets to the pencil pushers. LOng gone are the Claytor Bros.
Personally, I just want CSX to put the Ches “C” cat back on their logo (I mean, really? how hard would that be?).
Agree 100%. If that NYC paint scheme actually existed on at least ONE REAL loco, I’d buy it in a hearbeat. But this is worse than the Jersey Central FM Trainmaster with the orange-blue paint scheme. At least the orange-blue EXISTED on some JC locos, just not the FM.
Chances of them putting the Cat in the C paint scheme back are are slim and none and slim left town. Cost is probably stopping it. Although I think it would be immensely popular with railfans. I’d like to see just ONE loco with the old Chessie colors and the cat. [:D]

Seeing old engine schemes might inspire more people to get into/back into trains.
Maybe, insurance and paint costs prevent the RR’s. from bringing back a time when America, at least, seemed innocent.

I recently bought a Weaver ‘Boraxo’ red lettered PS-2, 2-Bay Covered Hopper and a Atlas ‘Union Carbide’ ‘Bakelite Plastics’ PS-2, 3-Bay Covered Hopper.
Trying to find a color photo. of these on the Inter-Net is like looking for a moving needle, in a moving haystack. I don’t mean to be a cheapskate and not buy any books, but all I want is one color photo. of each, so I’ll keep trying.
Someone, on another forum, sent me a B.&W. photo. of the ‘Boraxo’ car and the brand name appears dark, which might indicate ‘Black’ lettering, as opposed to the sharper looking ‘Red’ lettering.
Due, to the beauty of these hoppers, I bought one of each anyway, which is similar to the beautiful Lionel F.M., C. of N.J. ‘Orange & Blue’ paint schemed engine, as Deputy mentioned. I never did buy the F.M., C.N.J. Even, though the Lionel F.M. C.N.J., ‘Blue & Orange’ is not prototypical, it is still a tempting beauty.
Before, buying any engines and/or rolling stock, I try to find a color, or B.&W. photo. of an item I like, but just like that beautiful Lionel F.M., C.N.J., ‘Blue & Orange’ paint scheme color, I just had to have these hopper beauties, even if not prototypical.

Yes, I have the Lionel blue-orange Jersey Central Post War Celebration Series loco.It features Railsounds with Towercom and Crewtalk, Electrocouplers, Command Control, Dual Motors, and die cast trucks. It’s a nice loco. Here’s one on E-Bay:

Thank you for the info. of these updated F.M. engines of which I’ll look into.
I have a Lionel updated F.M. D.L.&W./L engine, with all sorts of do-dads, which I like, but also M.T.H.'s version seems interesting and there’s always room for expansions at the depot, etc.

The three Lionel Post War F.M. engines I like don’t have a prototypical color paint scheme:
1-#2321 Both Lackawanna engines-Maroon & Light Gray roofs. Should be Dark Grayish/Black, ‘PERIOD.’ 1954-1956;
2-#2322 Virginian-Blue & Gold. Should be Black & Gold. 1965-1966;
3-#2341 Central of New Jersey-Blue & Orange. No such color scheme on their F.M. engines, but on their other engines, yes. 1956.

The C. of N.J. prototype F.M’s. were all Black with some little Gold & White highlight, lettering and numbering.
