MTH Pennsylvania H-10 2-8-0 wierd whistle

I have a MTH Pensy H-10 2-8-0. It’s a great little loco, but when I blow the single chime whistle, there is another noise that sounds like a phone ringing. Has anyone else noticed this and does anyone know if there is a sound chip upgrade?

Hello John:

If you have DCS you are able to change the sound set. You can download various sound sets from the MTH web site. Are you running the engine in conventional or command mode? Do all of the other sounds work correctly? What kind of transformer are you using?

Hi, John. I am runnning DCS with a 75watt Liionel brick. All other sounds are fine. This actually sounds like something else was recorded with the whistle.

Is this model number 20-3055-1? I went to the MTH site and they have this sound file available for download. If you know how to use the DCS Loader program you can reload the sound file and see if that corrects the problem. I do not have this model so I cannot comment on the whistle sound. Have you used the Loader program before?
