Anybody see Taylor as she presented the latest from MTH. The N&W pre-weathered passenger unit and the “J” engine. Also some other engines pre-weathered as well. Tthey look pretty good.
I guess they do the work for you. For myself, I enjoy my own weathering projects.
A fine effort. This factory weathering bit has been done in HO by Bachmann and Ertl, and possibly others…and I think also in O gauge by Weaver. I like to see the hi-rail (O gauge… not O scale) folks getting a bit more into serious scale modeling and by offering scale looking equipment is a definte plus.
Weathering, however is a very personal thing,… it can be too heavy or too light and requires a bit more technique than a factory dusting of Grimy Black. but for a factory job, that ain’t gonna happen.
Personally I’m into HO in a big way, but I have been building a complete scale railroad in Hi-rail for a friend in Colorado. It is based on my Piermont Division layout in Maryland. Everything is scale except couplers, wheel flanges and three rail track, and that is painted and weathered…and ballasted. When a MTH, Lionel, or whatever guy goes beyond a basic flat level layout with shiny new plastic everthings and enters the world of scale…he or she will purchase many additional items too numerous to mention…further growing the hobby.
My, my my. Is MTH kicking butt on HO market or what!
I just learned they are also releasing a GG1 model, in multiple paint schemes, no less. If you look at their roaster in 3 years they were able to go from 0 to 100 in HO. Big Boy, Mohawk, Mikado, J-Class, major NYC streamliners and bunch of electrics and diesels. All sound equipped no less. Walthers Empire Builder and just announced MTH N&W “Arrow” consists were the reasons I got into this hobby a little over 2 years ago. I know everyone finds it fashionable to bash MTH on these boards, but I can’t see how anyone can deny MTH contribution to the HO scene.
MTH is even releasing GG1 for Marklin 3 rail system in HO - very smart move! GG1 by Marklin/Trix go for a premium on eBay. Not anymore once this baby gets released.
The new weathered series is very interesting. I’m not sure if I go for it, because none of my other trains are weathered, but weathering looks good, especially on the engine - very realistic. Now finally, those of us who don’t have many hours to spend on this hobby, can actually enjoy a complete train including weathered passenger cars! Modeler just need to add interior detailing and figures!
Is MTH finally going to make a GG1, or are they just going to keep talking about doing something with the old BLI molds. I have been hearing talk from them for years now, but no GG1’s yet. Is the lawsuit finally settled?
