I just purchased a new MTH Premier 844 Northern, and am very happy with its performance and sound system, not to mention it’s amazing smoke system which can fill up the room! However, I am not sure how to turn on the Red Light above the white headlight, I believe it should flash from the YouTube videos I watched. I am operating it under DCS command and have read both manuals to no avail. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
This is guess work, but, when you load your engine into the DCS Remote, any special features will also be loaded. Each engine has its own set of Hot Keys (S1 S2 S3 S4 S5).
Try pushing S5 (arrow) until “More” appears under S4, press it. You now can use the Center Wheel to run down ALL 38 special features and sounds on your engine in plain english. You can allso “move” any of them up into the first 15 hot key locations for easy access.
As for the flashing Red Light, look for “Mars Light”, “Ditch Light”, or some other “— Light” to turn it on and off.
The only situation I’m aware of in which a locomotive would display a red light would be if it were at the rear of the train:
Thank you for the correction, I now believe that the correct terminology for this light is an “Emergency Light.”
Similar to what Bob N. mentioned the only time that I know of for an engine to display a red light is when it is in reverse, or at the end of a train and pushing it forward.
My guess as to why the red light at the end of a train is if an engineer ran a block signal light he could see the end of the train light and try to stop.
