i recently purchased a new (2004) Texas Special F3 RTR set that runs fine but has no sound. I’ve adjusted the volume control and tried the 15 minute warm up as recommended in the instruction manual, neither of which produced any results. Does this “sound” like a battery problem or something else ? Thanks for any help.
It could be the speaker.
I have to agree with chuck as it sounds like a speaker problem. First though did you check all the inside wiring connectors as one could be loose enough in its socket to not work. Secondly have you made sure that the battery for the PS-2 locomotive is fully charged? You can buy a charger for around $25.00 at your local hobby shop or ask them to order one from MTH, you can also charge the battery from the transformer by leaving the locmotive in nuetral for about 12 hours with transformer turned on. That is why I like the seperate charger from MTH as you don’t have to supply power to your track for several hours, take the unit off and charge it on the shelf if you like with the battery charger thus freeing up your track for other train traffic.
One last thing to check, do you have the DCS system? If so the hand held remote’s (AA batteries)batteries may be low.

Are you sure it’s new?
Did you purchase this from a dealer or off something like Ebay?
Try a factory reset, see your owners manual.
