I have to admit. If MTH can announce stuff and then deliver in a timely fashion they will become a contender for HO.
As much as I love the PCM/BLI engines and cars that I got, it is very irritating to see them posts pone stuff. Maybe I should get me some of those Athearns…
I thought the phrase “Kadee compatable couplers” was interesting. I assume it means that they are using the Kadee name, but not putting in real Kadees. Even the cheapest plastic knuckles are “compatable” with Kadee, because you can couple them together until the plastic ones fall apart, but they aren’t Kadees. To me, that’s deceptive.
If they would put out a CPR Selkirk 2-10-4, I’d be all over it a couple of times at least. Otherwise, nothing they have announced or have produced is something that either appeals to me or is something I can use.
yawn Red herring MisterBeasley. As Magnus pointed out, KD compatable is just a term which means they will mate with KD’s. This is a non-issue. Nothing deceptive here if you’ve been in the hobby for a few turns of the globe. Yes, saw the registered trademark symbol and thats just be cause they mentioned Kadee’s name in the add, again, only as a reference.
Yeah, I was gonna say that PCM states in their products descriptions that their couplers are “Kadee compatible”. I am guessing that the PCM couplers are actually Kadee couplers since they are metal and are identical to #5s (at least on my PCM PAs they are).
When I first read the Post Subject, it lead me to believe they were being released into the HO market now.
Anywy, this should be a complete blow to PCM who scheduled the Daylight engine on and off for over two years and it is now TBD on their web page. If this model is made with the number boards moved back and has the large Southern Pacific, I will certainly take some. I really don’t want the 1941 era GS4 with the small lettering and the number boards up front. The SP moved those number boards in a very short time after the GS4’s were delivered because at night, the headlight and mars light were so bright it was hard to catch the number on the number boards up front.
Good thing I still have brass ones to run in the meantime.
They probably will be correct. Those photos at MTH look like they are of the 3 rail O gauge version.
And if they’re going to do the GS-6, I hope they do it with the correct 73" drivers and don’t just put a single headlight smokebox front on what is otherwise a GS-4.
The pictures looks like the larger scale and the pictures are not to scale length to height wise. I have the # 1 scale GS4 and it looks very good overall and the sound is extremely good.
MTH offered the GS6 in # 1 scale with the smaller 73" drivers compared to the GS4 version which has the 80" drivers, so they know the difference.
We have been asking PCM to build the GS4 every since they announced it over two years ago, but it is probably not going to happen now. I would not be surprised to find they cancel the Daylight Train also since the Genesis cars will be out this summer and PCM is now showing next year. ( 2009 ) Many modelers will be happy with the 1937 version and not purchase both the 37 and 41 train. First set of cars on the market will probably be the winner in overall sales and PCM cannot afford to have models in their warehouse.
I found it is not profitable to bet on their schedules. The Blue Line Big Boys were scheduled for November, December, January and February, so March is about right.
I think you are right. PCM would be stupid to release it now. At least it will be dropped as a priority I guess. PCM should stop announcing so way a ahead and then don’t hold their end of the bargain. MTH have so far been good in that they tell us and then release it.
Because of the prices involved here a definite date is important, I ordered six Presidents from PCM the other day, but not knowing when this 2000$ is due is really irritating. One would like to be able to plan a bit more.
I will have to buy me a MTH product to look at it my self. They seem nice.
