I think I already know the answer to this based on searches that I’ve done on several forums but I have to ask anyway.
Now that I’m on DCC I can run my MTH Triplex and access several features that I could not do previously on DC, such as sounding the whistle. I really like everything about the model …except:
The whislte sounds weak
and I’d like to adjust the speed to a slower range.
Short of buying a DCS system is there now a fix for this?
Without an MTH DCS system, you’re pretty limited to what you can adjust CV-wise with your DCC system. I think that’s what really gripes folks the most about their decoders.
I have three MTH’s, two diesels and a Triplex, and also dislike their limited DCC flexibility. MTH has stated that new diesels will have improved DCC capabilities in response to complaints, but will offer no retrofits for their steamers. I plan to quiz them at Sacramento if they show up. Hal
There’s no reason that you have to own everything you need. Find someone that has DCS set up and running. I would try the Classic Toy Trains forum here as a start, or look for a shop that sells a lot of MTH equipment. They would probably let you use the system to adjust volume levels under DCS, which (I would hope) would then stay that way under DCC. Bring the manual so the process can be as easy as possible.
