I hear that MTH is making an HO SD70ACe, is this true?
I guess there is no disputing this… http://www.mthhotrains.com/PDFs/2008v3HOCat.pdf
Edit: It looks like with the release of the Daylight cars and a couple of other things, MTH is hittin’ the HO world hard and fast. So far their HO stuff has been really nice, so I am looking forward to seeing their passenger cars.
Now we will have a choice of Daylight cars from three companies. Which one care to guess which company will cancel the Daylight cars first??
There is no way that three sets of Daylight cars will make money for all three companies. The first one to the market with their product will probably clean up on sales and the other two sets will be on shelves for months and years.
Did you see that it said it had couplers that would uncouple with a DCC/DCS function? I want a loco that does that![:O][:)]
I got into G gauge and bought their equipment. More features than any other. I started buying their O scale as well. This diesel will probably keep me into HO as I was just going to sell it all off! Joe Paonessa
Gee, I may have to rethink opinions on MTH. They’re improving drastically. And the ACe is gonna keep them here for a looonngg while.
EDIT: That demo engines ugly, and what’s up with that knuckle on the CSX pic? It looks deformed.
Very cool stuff, but where is the snowplow?
Good for you diesel guys. However, the NYC L-3 & L-4 Mohawks is what catches my eye. [^][tup]

I was wondering when someone would comment on the Mohawk.
It seems like MTH is announcing models that BLI has scheduled, but not delivered. The MTH Daylight passenger car announcement might be a calculated marketing risk since three companies are now in the process of making the same items with only a few variations.
BTW, that Mohawk tender looks too long. I judge by the back stp though.
That was my exact same thought. I guess they figure if they can rush things through and get to the “finish line” first, they can steal those customers that were waiting for other companies to release their stuff. I don’t mean stealing customers in a bad way. It seems like smart business to me.
The catalog picture is the O scale tinplate version they’ve already released (same with the Mohawk). Using that picture was probably a bad idea, as the Tower 55 cheerleaders will undoubtedly go “ZOMGLOL!!1! It’s crap!”
The uncoupling feature sounds interesting. Someone was marketing a DCC uncoupling system, but it used the entire interior of the freight car. I’m less interested in the smoke function, unless they synch it with the sound so it only gives out a puff of smoke when the loco revs up. That would be seriously cool.
Milepost,
Although I wouldn’t run it on my layout at home, the MTH smoke unit is VERY impressive and realistic. I saw their K4 in action at a show last year. Amazing!
As far as I can remember, the smoke was synched well with the sound, but not how you have it stipulated. I guess you could always turn the smoke function on and off manually to replicate what you were describing.
Tom
You’d have to, because modern diesels really don’t smoke that much. Black smoke would be nice, too.
Selector has another thread running on the same subject http://cs.trains.com/forums/1478833/ShowPost.aspx The link loads faster than the one here - check it out.
Flash,
Decided to double-check that:
Prototype #3037
MTH #3037
Looks pretty good.
Tom
As many as you may recall I am not one to bash a model…However…This one is way out in left field with several major detail errors that even I can spot… [:O]
What are they thinking? [%-)]
They’re probably starting to think it was a bad idea to use tinplate models as stand-ins in an HO scale catalog [:)]
That could will be…[#oops]
The SP cars shown are Challenger imports models. Athearn will have the first car for their version of the daylight out in Aug 08 of which I have one preordered. From what I have seen, Athearn’s pilot model of the chair car is very well detailed. I really don’t think MTH can pull this off. I don’t have any plans on ordering a ACe from MTH as it doesn’t look correct. To me, it appears as if they combined the phase I and II versions together. I would like to see them release s DC version in conjunction with the DCS version but, that won’t happen.
