MTH SD70ACe

MTH has its first sample of the SD70ACe on their site. It looks good. I know I’ll probably be getting one.

It must be me but the overall details look rather bulky and oversized, also the lack of a etched grill at the rear of the locomotive below the rear headlight is a fairly big disapointment.

Not to meantion that its being forced on the market with sound decoder equipped only, why should I have to pay a extra $100 for features that I wont use and yes I refuse to buy their controller since I use digitrax so all those other functions are useless to me. I have no doubt in my mind that the athearn model will blow this one out of the water and will be worth the wait. overall the quality of this model looks very poor perhaps the production versions will look better but I highly doubt it

I pre-ordered the UP model, cant wait to try out the “Scale Kadee Compatible Remotely Controlled Proto-Couplers”. That will be neat to move stuff around the yard without the five finger crane involved or silly magnets. I think it looks great. [C):-)]

Since athearn bought tower 55 from overland, I will wait for an athearn verison if i get one.

I will be prdering the Missouri Pacific one. I think the paint job on those is absolutely outstanding. Will you be able to get sound using DC? I can’t wait to see the Athearn line of those.

The pictures show the isolated cab version, which is correct for the latest BNSF and the latest 50 units for the Union Pacific, but the isolated cab would not be correct for the Union Pacific Heritage units or the first three hundred and fifteen units they purchased. Like their O scale version, they are showing the HO version without the plow on the front. I hope they add the plow since matching color for some of the Heritage units might be hard to get the correct color.

These are early test pictures and do not represent the final product.

I would hope the quality is good. If not, the Genesis units are still out there later on.

I will be waiting for the Athearn ones too…

Any word on the relase date of the Athearn ones?
