I just purchased a Budweiser O scale boxcar for my father and noticed that it is a MTH brand. He has Lionel. Will this new boxcar I purchased operate well with his Lionel ste?
Well, welcome to the forum.
While we are happy to have everyone here, you will find that most of us model in either HO or N scale. There are far more O and S scale people over in the Classic Trains forums, and you’ll probably get a quicker answer over there.
And now I’ll sit back and watch one of our own O-scalers pop right up and answer the question, just to prove me wrong. Unfortunately, my own famiilarity with Budweiser does not extend to its railroad cars.
Correction: It’s actually Classic Toy Trains forum. Classic Trains deals with older prototypes and fallen flags. Here’s the direct link:

The answer to your question is a qualified yes. MTH - unless it specifically states it is for 2 rail - all operates on the same 3 rail O track as Lionel. Couplers will mate up with each other. The only issue that qualifies the “yes” is how sharp are your curves and how long is the car in question.
If your Lionel has the O27 curves and switches, the MTH car may hit the housing on the switches, especially on the curved part. Since MTH doesn’t make O27 track, they don’t test their equipment for O27 use. Almost all MTH freight cars will go around the O31 curves of O track, and even more will go around the O36 curves of Lionel FastTrack. In each case, the number expresses the diameter of a circle of track in inches.
hope this helps

Yes, but the coupler heights might be different.

No, they will not play well together. The Lionel and MTH cars will inevitably sue each other.
