Multi-level modular layout

I’m planning my first modular layout and after seeing a couple of articles and plans that have multiple levels, I’d like to begin planning a second level on my modular layout, what I’d call phase 2. I have N gauge trains and I’m wondering what would be the minimum distance between levels would be. Any help would be appreciated. Joe
