Muni ‘sickout’ causes transit delays across San Francisco

Not good for tourism… transit workers deserve our support but we don’t want to become France!

Unions suck for this reason…

Fire every last one of them who can’t produce a verifiable doctor’s note.

Before screaming fire them, perhaps find out what they asked for and what the agency is refusing.

This sort of action is usually bought on as a last resort.

Blaming the union alone for this action is not right. For the most part, the workers want to do a fair days work for a fair days pay. The expect that a binding contract is lived up to on both sides. This action is not legal and was not entered into lightly. There will be consequences. That being said, the question is why didn’t management live up to their end of the agreement. There is very little recourse for their actions against labor. Desperate times call for desperate actions.

If it wasn’t for unions, Bruce, working conditions would be horrid. Long hours with low pay, unsafe working environment, no job protection, all these things would still exist if it weren’t for unions. Do you want to go back to those days? I wouldn’t think so.

Either tell us what the problem is on deals like this, or don’t bother with anything at all. It just riles up people who don’t have the facts. Tell us what’s what so people can at least express opinions based in fact rather than their prejudices.
