450k will barely scratch the surface. They should expect to spend three times that before it turns a wheel. That being said, I would love to see it happen. This engine would be great to pull football specials into Athens, GA.
great to read a ‘feel good’ post like this one. When I read the head line, the thought occured to me that all the nation’s railroad musuems could form a loan/storage deal with all the owners of railroad equipment in need of covered work space to restore to operational status. While reading about the new roundhouse, it seemed to me that the owner of said roundhouse wasn’t interested in working on other’s projects.
Just imagin the possibilities… Remenber that beautiful 4-8-4 that was scrapped for a lack of a place to store it? It didn’t have to happen, but thanks to short sighted people like the ones that condemed that fully operational locomotive to the scrap heap. Such a damned shame.
