Musician given model boxcar at New York Gala Event

The Concert Organist and Organist and Choir Director of the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church was honored by recitals and a gala party on 10 April in New York (Manhattan). He was given as part of his reward a model boxcar with the colors and logo of the New York Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. You may see photos of this event and of the boxcar on the website:

John is a railfan that has a large O-gauge model railroad and uses Amtrak extensively for his concert tours.

Nice article. How did you run onto that?

Seeing that O scale boxcar in his hands brings home just how much difference there is in size between O and my little N scale cars.

Regards

Ed

Lots of musicians are train fans and some are model railroaders also. I used to be a model railroader and still subscribe to TRAINS and am an active railfan. I am also a member of the American Guild of Organists and even though I no longer live in New York, I’ve kept up membership in the Chapter. So their email publication “Double-Open” is a regular on my email. You can check out my personal connection to John Weaver on the TRAINS MAGAZINE “Railroads” Forum site.

I guess there would be no prize for guessing which of the accolades pulled out Dr Weaver’s stops from a quick review of the photos ! I wouldn’t mind guessing that he snuck off home early to get that boxcar into revenue service before the dinner had concluded ! What an expression on the good doctors face !!
35 years as the Director of Music at the one church is a fair effort I think. Deserved a whole train.
