My 844 Photos from Nebraska and Iowa

Here are my photos of 844 from August 4. These are in Blair, Nebraska during the service stop.

These are from this morning at Golden Spike Park in Council Bluffs, Iowa. I like these better because there weren’t a hundred people in the way.

I know they’re not great, but I’m still pretty happy with them.

What do you mean, “not great”?

I like the first one of the locomotive without the crowd.

Nice, clean and straightforward photo, tells you all you need to know about what is going on…the blue light on the front coupler to the cars fading away in the distance says it all.

And, you should find the “blue flag” protection thread, and post it there to, as an example of one of the types of blue flags there are.

I like…and bet other do too…

Very nice photos!

Great shots, Willy!

Willy, I’m with Ed. That shot just radiates simple elegance. Sometimes (and I’m as guilty as the next guy) photographers worry about getting the perfect shot, and sometimes think too much about it. I’ve learned that what matter most in a picture is the subject matter. Forget lighting, composition, lens choise, etc. etc. ad nauseum. If you don’t have a subject, it’s impossible to make a good photograph.

In your shot, the 844 does quite nicely for herself. I wish the skies had been a little better for you, but that’s not really something you can control during an excursion train’s voyage.

At any rate, I think it’s a great shot, and the others aren’t bad. Keep working at it, and have fun.

Willy,they’re your pictures,you’ve got the memories that a lot of other people would like to have;
Thanks for sharing some very good shots with the rest of us!

Thanks for the compliments, folks! I plan to keep plugging away at it. In the past I haven’t been very big on the idea of taking lots of railroad photography, but recently I’ve been giving it some serious consideration.

Of course as soon as we left the skies cleared out. I guess that’s just the way it goes, though.

Weather it’s sunny or cloudy. Never give up Railroad Photography.

Willy, really enjoyed your pictures!! Keep up the
good work!!

Very nice photos, Willy 2. Good 3/4 angle shots. And your pictures are certainly better than what I got, which is none at all. I live too far away from the places where the 844 was scheduled to stop. I have cousins who live in the metro Denver area and had I been able to plan my vacation trip to Colorado a little better this time around, I might have had a decent chance to see and photograph the 844…but I reckon there will be other oportunites.

Which one is Allen?

spbed - I don’t think Allan is in any of the photos I took. If he is, I’m sure he would have mentioned it.

I went back to Golden Spike Park to get a few more pics this morning, but again the sky conditions were not up to par. Mother nature is apparently not in the mood for pleasing those who wish to get some bright and sunny train pictures.
