You guys runs a great forum here and I will try to contain my outbursts to one a month[:)]
I am not quite sure how to take that. Yes, the forums are great. But it is the people who make it so. Those who “play by the rules” have been, and always are welcome. There have been some who have wound up on the “other” side of the fence and are no long welcome here. I very well imagine you know what I mean. As long as your “outburst” can be logically read and contain wording that is not offensive things will be fine.
I hope for the best for you and the forums.
Good Day.
Out don’t mind your outburst just as long as its clean; otherwise why not get some things off your chest.
Integrity of intention, clearness of thought with the absence of rancor most always goes the distance whether in discussion or persuasion. These are the watch words for those who desire to be heard and understood in the public arena of which we are all honored to be a part. Your passion on given topics shows the strenth of you feelings of which no person need feel ashamed. Us hot headed Scotsmen of Southern persuasion all understand this condition. As for me, apology accepted with the graciousness of the offerer - piouslion
Got bit by the “train dog”? Yep, got the scars to prove it. Just think before you type!
Mooki
There is a train dog on here? Yikes! I wouldn’t dream of cussing or using foul language. But, I was just getting ready to type a snipit about why I think Amtrak should be somewhere between elminated and split up. I imagine that would be looked upon far more unkindly than any foul language.
The train dog should read up on the reasoning and virtues of free speech.
Gabe
Choice is free speech and no forum or mind your p’s and q’s and have forum.
No biggie there!
Nope- your completely right- We all have freedom of speech-
However, for every freedom and privilage, there are consequences for our actions.
People who use these freedoms wisely have greately benefitted.
Remember it’s like a tool- a hammer per say- it is intended to hit the nail on the head- not a human being- just watch how you use your tools.
See - Kevin has scars, too!
I like the way you said that[tup][yeah]
The forum can be kinda weird sometimes because it is like a confessional, where you go in and are anonymous and a person can hear your transgressions, but at the same time you are also on the other side of the veil hearing everybody else’s. It can feel a little creepy at times.
What keeps me coming back is that there is a grabbag of information that when you open it, you never know what your going to find, and the poeple who take the time to contribute are all genuinly interesting. There may be rules here, but ones that are no different in any regular conversation, simply be relevant and be yourself.
TF, stay cool.
Sorry, I have to admit, I posted my response because I was bored at work today and thought I could cause some rukus by taking a pro-free speech position that I knew would not be popular.
I was going to respond to the posts that I knew would follow with something to the effect of “we can all police the forum ourselves by not reading posts with such foul language, etc–as I decided to neither read nor respond to the post in question myself.” I was also going to go on about the virtue of people being able to determine appropriateness for themselves.
That having been said, I admit that I am making such arguments more out of boredom than a geniune belief that people are not required to conduct themselves with a reasonable degree of civility.
I am still gunn (punn intended) shy about saying we need to get rid of–or at least rethink our position on–Amtrak though. How bad is this dog’s bite?
Gabe
The small Baptist church was badly neglected. The exterior hadn’t been painted in 20 years. One of the deacons examined all the estimates and decided he could do it for half the lowest bid. He bought the cheapest paint and added an equal part of water. It looked great 'till it rained the following week. The deacon said he would do the job over & did the same thing. Once again it rained with the same result. The preacher was furious and yelled at the deacon "REPAINT AND THIN NO MORE.
Gabe,
Please do not misunderstand.
I am all for free speech, it is a right that sets America apart from almost every other country in the world, and one of the things that helps keep us free.
But, quite a few folks confuse rights, with priviliges…
So, while trainfinder has every right in the world to say whatever he wishes, in what ever manner he wants to, with what ever language he chooses…
the people who own and manage this site also have the right to revoke, modify or remove his privilige to use this forum to do so.
This place, while peopled by quite a few different and unsual folks, is still a private web page, run by Kalmbach, to promote railroads and model railroading.
There is no right to guarentee access to this forum, nor any right involved that allows anyone to use language beyond that found in civilized conversation.
As Kevin so aptly pointed out, rights have consequences, as do priviliges.
If you excersise your rights, you have to be prepared to withstand the consequences of doing so…
And if your going to abuse your privilige to use a forum, you should be prepared to have your privilige removed, or curtailed.
Rights can not be taken away from you, and I will defend to the death trainfinders right to speak…
But priviliges can be removed…
Ed
Yeah, we try to keep it clean…uh…most of the time.
What, did I miss something again?
TF-
Keep a civil tounge and try to engage mind before placing fingers in motion on the keys…
LC
I am going to start a new list - noises…(acceptable ones!)
This one gets a “Groan”…
This one gets an “Applause”…
This one gets a universal AMEN!
